There are rules and regulations for everything. YOU mess something up, you're in Biiig Trouble, Buster.
Depending on who owns it, the size of it, it seems corporate disasters can be disappeared, goob mistakes, phhht, nobody cares how many people die or lives ruined. But, I'm cynical.

well since we brought up bad water, guess what one of the reasons for the popularity of beer was, originally?
Yup, you got it, the water around any large city was unsafe to drink
Even bathing got a bad rap due to bad water

And That beer Had to have a pretty serious alcohol content, in Order to make the water safe.
No amount of alcohol will make chemically polluted water safe.
Little, disease causing organisms, they might be hurt or killed by the alcohol.

Bad water is the reason for alcoholic beverages (can't drink the water) and perfume (can't bathe).  Wink

I would not say bad water is the Reason for alcoholic beverages, but the Reason for the wide acceptance of them in some societies prior to the ability to make drinking water safe without having to boil it.
My chemistry professor told us that the first chemical reaction, after fire, which is the rapid oxidation of a material, if you want to see it that way, was creating alcohol, after that, soap.
Gotta have clean drunks.
He also explained that the first guy who figured out how to make a barometer used water.. Being so much less dense than mercury, it had to be larger. So, a tub in the floor, a tube that went through the roof,, and it worked! He predicted rain, correctly, twice, then they burned him at the stake, for practicing witchcraft. Dr. Taylor saw the humor in that...
That was his first foray into humor in that class.

Yeah, JOG, my statement is a little vague. In the Middle Ages you wouldn't be caught dead drinking water or milk. You drank mead. Everyone did, including the children. It wasn't 180 proof or anything but contained enough alcohol to kill off the wee beasties that might be living in the water you used to make it.

actually it was the boiling of the water for brewing that made it safe
heat kills most beasties, ya know
they mighta thought the alcohol did it, but it was the boiling during the brewing process
the alcohol probably helped keep more beasties from forming, but the boiling did them in pre fermentation
of course, being ignorant of microbes, bacteria and such, they didn't know that
Actually bacteria can grow in beer too to some extent

Whatever it takes to get the wife on board with having a few beers.... if ya gotta con the whole village, so be it!

I know so little about beer or mead, I had no idea that the water is boiled first. I CAN open any container and access the contents, which I thought was enough for me to know.
I'm also not particularly musically inclined, but, given a few minutes to warm up, I can play just about any radio.

History channel
Discovery
science channel
DIY channel
you get my drift
Lots of stuff about how stuff is done, used to be done, why it was done, etc
I wish I had been as 'into' learning when I was a kid
Actualy I probably was, but they weren't teaching what I wanted to learn  Grin
