Brake light help
11/23/08 at 09:04:30

There are two wires that come from the brake light switch. How are these connected? I imagine one has to be a hot and the other goes to the brake light but i can't seem to get it to work.

Any ideas and which wire goes to what?

Thanks all!

Lever or pedal?...If you jump them does the brake light come on?...If yes, check the switch,...if no, check the bulb.  If both are good, trace the wires.  If it's the lever, does the pedal work?  Or visa versa?

I am referring to the brake pedal. My taild light comes on and stays on as it should but the two wires are not connected that come from the brake pedal switch. I am trying to fighure out how they should be connected.

Thanks!

According to the wiring diagram I have, there is an orange wire that carries +12V from the key switch to several places, one of which is the front brake switch and another is the rear brake switch.  Operating either switch passes that +12V to a White/BlackTrace wire which goes to the brake lamp.  The common side of the brake lamp is a Balck/WhiteTrace wire that connects to the negative/ground side of the battery.

Thank You! That is exactly what I was looking for. The colors and connection points. Now I will see if that works!

I had this same problem with mine.

All i had to do to fix my issue was spray the rear brake switch
with kontakt cleaner, and work the switch a few times.

Your problem may not be so simple.

good luck!

No not yet. I wired it up and it didnt work so I am going to try cleaning the switch and/or replacing it if need be. I just wish I could find a color schematics for the wire. What goes to the orange one and what goes to the black one.

We'll see!

I rewired my entire bike and took off over 100' of wire. you will just have to play with it for a bit.... scratch your head.... have a scotch... sleep on it and it will come to you! It takes a while to get it working properly!
