Cool!  Great job! The Purple People Eater!  My first Savage was a 2004 Purple People Eater.

THank You, I'm still thinking about using those air shocks. I hit some horrendous bumps in the road this afternoon.  I can't make up my mind if its purple or black cherry. In the pics it looks purple but in the light it looks black cherry. Being a HUGE HENDRIX FAN and a HUGE BLACK CHERRY ICE CREAM FAN. Either suits me fine.

I do vintage amp repair and am one of Hendrix biggest fans. I actually worked on one of Hendrix studio used amps, a 1965 Fender Princeton.

I wonder how much different the bike is going to handle with 12 1/2 shocks in the rear?

Guitar Man!!

I would post a new topic asking if anyone has experience with the 12.5” shocks.  I’ve read of some forum members using the 11-12” Progressive 412 shocks, and they like them.  For the price, I hope they are really happy with them!

I’m vertically challenged (5’7”) and only 165lbs, and I don’t ride 2-up or with a heavy load.  The stock 10.5” on the middle setting works just fine for me.

04s...04: I've used 12.5" shocks for 7-8 years, they sharpen the steering a bit, nice!
Cheers!  Cool

Hey Zipi.  Can you entertain and enlighten me a bit.  What aspect of longer shocks ‘sharpen the steering’?  Is it the firmness of your particular shocks or the different lean angle they create in corners?

If I were to buy new shocks, I want the best of both worlds - easier on my butt, hips, and back - AND improvement or no compromise is steering and handling.  And I don’t want to spend a small fortune.

i know the higher the ass end goes up reduces the rake angle in the frt causes the steering to be a bit quicker. I'm going with 12 inch if I can find a good set. The shorter the shock the less travel so for example with the stock 10.5 shocks you have only 1 1/2 inch travel before you feel the stops as the shocks bottom out. Go up to 12.5 and you have almost twice as much travel before you run out on travel and hit the bump stops. I was going to 12 inch just because I don't want to deal with doing any mods.

The stock bike has understeer. On a right turn, it wanted to put me into oncoming traffic, on a left turn, onto the shoulder.
My bike has 12.5 shocks, lowered front with a different top tree, and an 18" front wheel. It goes where I put it. Very enjoyable on curvy roads.
Cheers!  Cool

Thanks guys.  I thought it was the impact on the rake angle (or lean angle as I called it), and not necessarily the shock itself.  But it begs the question….what if you have a soft/spongy 12” compared to a stiff 10.5”.  Sorry, I couldn’t resist asking the question this way.  Shocked

Reminds me of this song by Aerosmith, “My Big 10 Record”.
