Timing plug
04/10/22 at 18:43:57

Anyone know if the timing plug (alternator/generator cover) from a different model Suzuki will fit the 650 Savage; preferably one with the hex socket instead of the screwdriver slot?  Had to pull the cylinder head cover this weekend to replace a leaking headbolt plug and basically destroyed mine getting it to come loose. Tried heat, impact driver, ect. and finally got it loose but it's unusable now.  Never had one of those come out that hard???

Thanks for any suggestions.  Carry on!!  wiguzziman

if you crush the o-ring the flange will meet the case and corrode together.
replace the o-ring every couple of years to avoid this.

Suzuki Part Number For Timing Cover

Suzuki Part# 09259-36008

This is the cover with an Allen Socket rather than the straight slot.

Antisieze is your friend.
You can put it in, don't crush it, make a mark across the edge and watch it. If it starts to back out, give it a nudge,a sharpie will last long enough to get miles on it.

Thanks a bunch guys!!  I was working on a 96 Savage that I purchased last summer, so I was at the mercy of several P.O.'s that didn't use any anti-seize and tightened that timing plug up real good so it wouldn't fall out!?  I'm a big fan of anti-seize and will make sure to use some on the timing plug that I put in.  Thanks again.  Carry on!!  wiguzziman
