S40 vs S50 (Read 141 times)

I really like the bike but i feel that i need something with a little more power for the California freeways. I was looking at the S50 and the intruder VS800. My question is how does the S40 compare to both of these? Do they handle the same as the S40 but just with a little more power? Thanks!

Take a test ride before you decide.....and spend a bit of time at highway speeds so you can discover if the bike cruises easily. If you enjoy riding curves - a big cruiser may not be what you want.

I like parallel or boxer twins better than V-Twin cruisers.....although I did have a Honda NT700 that rode very nice (I would have kept it if I could have made the luggage bigger).

The cruiser layout is low and makes it easy to reach the ground....but cornering clearance is often an issue and they can drag pegs/frames/exhaust if you try to have fun in corners. The long and low layout does help with stability at speed.

Not too many years ago the market for big Japanese cruisers was pretty well saturated where I live and $3,500 could buy a really nice bike.

I believe it is the Yamaha v star 900 that requires exhaust removal for an oil filter change. (None of the other v stars require that).
-The difference of S40 and S50 is 10 hp and 100 lbs. that is the most obvious advantage. Probably worth it for California Freeway riding through the mountain passes.
For city traffic light driving, the lighter S40 gets the nod.

So, I can not comment on the S50, know nothing about it. But I will say I own 4 LS650/S40's. Two of those are regularly ridden, in fact rode one yesterday. That said my big bore rider is a Honda Fury. It is a bigger version of what our ride sort of is. It is much heavier, but has a low seat height for stability. Forward controls are about where the after market kits for our ride places them. It is an easy transition to a big ride from a Savage. But that is my opinion, sure others will have there own experiences.

If you like the feet forward riding position and cruiser styling - I think these are very capable bikes and have enough power and stamina to ride anywhere you want to go.

They have plenty of usable power without all the weight of a big V-Twin.

Someday I will be old......But not today!
