Wal-Mart airlines?
08/19/21 at 10:55:59

WTF is up with people? I keep hearing about violent people, people trying to open doors, people throwing things, just generally going bonkers.

Why?
What is going on?
Anyone have any way to explain why people are doing things on an airplane that is just so bizarre?
The Only thing I can think of, and it's not at all what I would call justification, but my desperate attempt to understand what someone Might be feeling, is people have been subjugated and frustrated by the whole TSA ordeal and being put into seats with no room and the ambience of air travel is dead, replaced by being treated like a terrorist and packed like cattle.
Of course you Have some percentage of goofy people to consider,, but I NEVER saw anyone misbehave on any of the planes and buses I was on.

Seriously, does anyone have any way to explain what we are seeing?

I think we would need to know what timeframe you are assesing.

When you say "the ambience of air travel is dead," what period of time are you thinking of?   Prior to 1980?

"I NEVER saw anyone misbehave on any of the planes and buses I was on."  Again what timeframe?

I imagine it is a series of things.

1: Where you are getting your information.
2: When you saw travelers, where and what overall timeframes you are comparing to.
3: Everyone has a cellphone to record this stuff now compared to word of mouth pre-2000's.
4: Herd mentality, influenced largely by the normalization of violence by social media saturation.
5: Psychological impacts of SARS-COV-02 response and the politics behind it.

You forgot the endlessly annoying TSA rigmarole, and the shi**Y customer service attitude of the airlines themselves.

Add those to the things you mentioned, and mix in the general level of as*holery that is nowadays considered acceptable public behavior, toss in a few drinks and there we are.

Not exactly a mystery IMO.

Yer' not gonna' like it but,... Trump...

We've seen it, on both sides,... since Trump normalized vulgarity, rudeness, insults, and threats.
It's up to us to step away.

Until we know what timeframe JoG is comparing to we can't really establish what TSA procedures have changed, if any.

The last plane ride was almost fifty years ago. People dressed up to go.
The last bus ride was around six years ago. Longview to Galveston.
Never saw anyone be less than cordial.
The guy who came to visit this summer reported someone going bonkers and trying to open an exit in flight.
I'm pretty sure the thirteen year old who was duct taped in his seat wasn't drunk.
I'm not sure what time frame has to do with it.
I'm CLEARLY referencing the difference between
Before
And
Now.
Certainly prior to TSA
Because, I point OUT how the treatment By the TSA could be an element.
The notion that TRUMP affect the attitude of the masses is ridiculous.
Just frikkin RIDICULOUS..
Good GOD let's all pray Biden doesn't normalize stupid..

It's looking like he's givin it all he has.

"The last plane ride was almost fifty years ago. People dressed up to go."

There is no way I could know that, and it is pertinent because I do not know if you meant this past year, or the past 5 decades.  If I asked you why oil production has changed so much would you know if I mean in the past decade, or the past 50 years?

People used to dress up to go see movies.  Now once and a while people get murdered in them by a nutjob.  I think the commonality and availability of anything, like flying reduces the desire to dress nice.  I can sometimes fly to 4 or 5 locations in one week, I am not putting on a suit for that.

"The guy who came to visit this summer reported someone going bonkers and trying to open an exit in flight."

I watched a guy try to do that in 1998 or 1999.  They held him down in the exit aisle and the flight was rerouted.  I don't think anyone filmed it, but today it would be all over Twitter and YouTube before the pilots even assembled a new flight plan.

"I'm CLEARLY referencing the difference between
Before
And
Now.
"

That's clear, but should I breakdown the socio-economics of 1960's household travel, airline availability, the advent of the TSA and policy changes if you just meant since Covid started?

Here tell me why gun crime is different now than before.

I flew regularly until the Covid panic yet but now fly only occasionally. What you’re seeing on airplanes is no different than what you’re saying everywhere else. There’s an entitlement some people have, that’s the best way that I can describe it.

And there have always been people who feel entitled more than others but what we’re seeing now is people‘s willingness to act out on it. Maybe that’s the behavior on social media, maybe that’s the behavior we see on forums like this, I think there’s something to that. There are some people who can’t differentiate between the two.

Thanks.
Why did I think such a topic would be easy to get people tossing ideas at?
Why was I surprised at all when
Trump?

I know, right?...

I traveled a lot as a child, and remember when flying was luxury. People were civil.
Today, it's much more about canning humans.
... but if things had been this way even back then, people would have been civil.
We have diminished the value of civility and put more value on being uncooperative.
Things need to change, and we need to respect each other more.
It's not just planes... road rage, check-out lines, internet forums, hospital waiting rooms. Anywhere crowded,.. there is a sense of me over us, and that is valued as a sign of strength and power.
... and I picture Trump at that summit, shoving aside another dignitary for a photo opp.
"What a tough guy" "Yeah, America first!"...
Trump didn't create it... he glorified it.
Deny it if you want.
Mr. no apologies, Mr. double down. Mr. I know more than the Generals, I know more than doctors.
I, I, I... Me, me, me... and ra ra from the peanut gallery at every vulgar misstep.
Mn and his obsession with his "cockholster".

The more you tolerate, the further the boundary expands.
Draw a line...

A bird flew into my play class window today. Trumps fault.
I spelled A word wrong today. Trumps fault.
I was cooking an omelette this morning and it didn’t turn out the way I want it. Trumps fault.
This makes as much sense, Trump’s fault: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kA6xpiNbHxk
