Any SC/NC/GA Members?

Being in upstate SC, and next door to WNC, not too far from GA, there are tons of beautiful rides. I'm curious if there is anyone nearby up for an occasional jaunt.

My app says 125 miles. That looks to be below Helen, which I love. Touristy, but I still love it. A Facebook group made a run there last weekend. I couldn't make it bc of my daughter's MSF course. North GA is beautiful btw.

I’d love to and just got new shoes for Stellinor. However, I’m still battling the annoying surging and the new petcock isn’t due until Monday. And I’m not absolutely positive the petcock will cure it. I putt around locally but better stay closer until I sort it out. Hopefully the petcock is the answer.

Since there seem to be a few of us in the general area, and/or willing to travel, perhaps we can plan something in the future? The Blue Ridge Parkway? Helen, GA? Something else?

Once I get this darned surge sorted out, I'm pretty open.

If it was my bike - the replacement petcock and a good carb cleaning would be where I would start.....along with re-jetting to a #50 pilot, #150 main, and replace the white spacer on the slide needle with 3 machine screw washers.

I am not a believer in Seafoam or other carb cleaners to remedy poor running issues - however they may be beneficial in helping to prevent problems.

You may well turn out right on the carb clean, etc. Had I not been an idiot (and in a rush) and previously replaced the petcock bolts with the correct ones after changing the plug, I'd completely agree and was thinking that way before my blunder.

But...although the petcock soon started leaking...the bike ran like a scalded dawg. Seriously. No surge. Started both cold and hot with merely a bump of the button. Smooth idle. Plenty of power. Truly amazing compared to my 10 mile test ride.

Until the very next day, when I corrected my mistake and used the proper bolts, cleaned the surface a bit, and gave the darned thing a good seal. Fixed the fuel leak, but the hard start, surge, wavering idle, et all returned immediately.

BTW I've cancelled one petcock as it wasn't expected to arrive until August. The one coming now is due sometime next week. I even looked at overnighting one but delivery is still expected in 4-5 days. Bah! I may look at doing the mod mentioned to the stock unit just to get it running.

Definitely any and all are invited and I do hope to be joining the fray soon.

I popped the vacuum line off the petcock this morning and found fuel. And I'm back to "no start." Guessing the plug is probably fouled, too. Bah!

So, I either have to wait on the part to arrive, or perhaps mod the OEM petcock in the meantime. Of course no local suppliers have either the OEM or Yamaha part in stock.

I get the idea behind the OEM design, but can't understand WHY Suzuki didn't improve it.  Embarrassed

SCS40:

Disconnect the vacuum line to the petcock - put a cap on the carb spigot and shove a bolt in the line.

Set the petcock to "PRI".  This mechanically opens the petcock and does not rely on the diaphragm.

See if the bike runs normally.  If it runs well then your carb is OK and the petcock is causing your problems....if it runs crappy then you need a carb cleaning.
