Sounds like they developed the decision over time and not due to complaints.

I'm not aware of a push to remove the "Mr." from the potato head brand but it is a good PR move. The number of people who will stop buying "Potato head" because its not "Mr." is considerably smaller than the group that will do the opposite.
The successful businesses plan for future sales and I think this is what the Potato Head thing is all about.
