rear white wall 150/90 vs 150/80
11/17/20 at 09:06:45

So I want to put some white walls on the savage and I don't see a lot of options for the 140/90 15 (which is what's on the bike now). I have found the shinko 777 white wall in 150/90 15 and 150/80 15.

since the 150/80's ratio would be smaller than the 150/90's would it be a better fit? or should I go with the 150/90's? or should I not mount either of those tires?

I believe the 150/90 is just too big to fit in the Savage - it will likely rub the swingarm cross member, and also the bolts that hold the side rails onto the fender.

There are some folks that have mounted the 150/80 - you still may have some rubbing issues to correct....the bolts under the fender will rub unless you install some with low profile heads.

 Same topic here as well:

This bike was modified to take white-walls:

I have the 150/90 and had to modify my bike to fit.  No rear fender at all and the shocks are now straight bars with a springer seat as the tire will impact the frame on bumps even with the shocks fully stiffened and I weigh 165lbs maybe 175 with gear.

go to tubless 16" then you can use a 130/90-16

The brake shoes fit right in , but ask Versey to be sure ?

I believe 1982 is tubeless ?   The round inside is tubed and the squair inside is tubeless
.........................

This is tubeless :  https://www.ebay.com/itm/Suzuki-gs450-gs-450-Rear-Rim-Wheel-Assembly/19362364...

Wow !  This one is 17"

this is not tubeless, there are no safety beads to hold the tire on the rim.
if it is tubeless, it will say so on the rim.

this is an example. look at the 2nd picture.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/80-82-Suzuki-GS450-19x1-85-Front-Wheel-Rim-Hub-54111...

here's another, look at the 4th pic

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1982-Suzuki-GS450L-GS-450-L-S385-front-wheel-rim-19i...

As far as the hub goes, check the max diameter listed on the rim.
if it's the same, then you got a good chance.

I got 150/80 on my bike, it fits all right in. (no white walls)
In any case I read a lot on this forum.. some guys (bobber builders?) want even wider tyres, then the tires altso rises in hight!

Then it seems that its the back fender and the uper frame that put this in question!
At least the back fender.. not the fender it self, but the nuts and bolts that protrude inward to the tire.

Soo.. 150/80 is working on my bike, a lot of space to the svingarm.

When looking at rear wheels, if you want to use the stock rear brake make sure it says ''160 mm'' inside the brake drum. If it says ''180 mm'' you will need to get the brake off that bike and make a torque arm of some type.
When changing front wheels, you will have to mess with the front brake rotor. You can have the rotor cut down to the same dia. as the S40's. (I did that once and ended up selling it to MMRanch). Or you can make a new bracket for the stock caliper. As long as you are making a new bracket, you can upgrade to a SV650 dual piston caliper and along with the bigger rotor you will have a LOT more front brake.(a good thing)
