overland YaBB Newbies Offline SuzukiSavage.com Rocks! Posts: 27	Oil Leak 09/23/20 at 16:05:10 Noticed an oil leak after riding, not much or enough to wet the fins, seem like a weep. noticed it couple days ago. Looks like a copper washer under bolt. which bolt is this? any how to's on a remedy.

Verslagen makes a replacement that is far better than the Suzuki one.

I am not sure about trying the cylinder head plug replacement.Have a small leak now which I'm sure will get worse. Seems like a lot can go wrong, torque specs, sealant, proper bolts and nut in proper places, I am not close to being mechanically inclined, oil changes and filters seem to be in my ballpark. My first bike and not feeling it about the plug change. I did read some instructions for our bike here, but it seemed a bit much. The local dealer didn't seem to know what i was talking about. Would be be great if there was someone in my area (Rockford, Il) that could do this. Anyone know of anyone?

Sometimes its better to just keep oil in something thats leaking, live with it. It doesnt hafta be perfect. Oil is cheap,,
Clean it up, STUDY where its coming from,
While youre tryng to decide what to do, READ,,
Dont get too wound up over torque specs,, Look at the BROAD span of Foot Pounds of Torque that are within specs,, Its not like an automatic transmission.. These things are very forgiving.
Learning what bolts FEEL like as their stretch comes to and end is important.
KNowing what threads feel like as they are about to give is important,,
Buy some cheap bolts and thread them in and tighten to destruction.

Learn the Feel of things before ya go walkin into it.

Just keep an eye on the oil level. I replaced mine a few years ago. I'm guessing I put 10-12k miles on it since then and it started leaking again this year. It's not bad yet so I just spray the area down with WD40 before I wash the bike.

I'll do the verslagen plug next time which may be a while.. Until then, it's a shot of WD40 and a pressure wash every once in a while.

So, still reading a lot about the head plug replacement for my 2011 savage. Can anyone verify that Compression TDC should be set prior to re-installing the head cover. Another ? is, are there o-rings and gaskets that should be replaced. I know the head cover itself has to be sealed. Wanna be sure I have all the pieces before and if I proceed. Thanks, everybody

I'm about to tackle this one as well... Yes, you should set TDC so the cam lobes are pointing down to unload the head cover for removal and installation. There is no head cover gasket, ThreeBond and it's derivatives seem to be most recommended. There is only a small 'figure-8' gasket that doesn't necessarily need to be replaced, but it's cheap.

So the cam lobes pointing down is compression TDC?
