Gas pouring from air vent
05/02/20 at 12:34:13

Hello!
Some days ago i bought a used mikuni vm38 from the internet and asked my mechanical to install it. Okay, everything fine until the day i stopped the bike for a few minutes and found out it was leaking gas from the air vent.

My theory is that somehow the float is getting stuck on the bowl, I am not sure if the float is actually the correct one for this model.

Do you guys have any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Stuck? Maybe,, Try giving the carb a whack whith a screwdriver handle,,
Or, the float valve had junk in it,,

Or the o-ring at the needle valve is dry/cracked/shrunk.

Had the same issue with mine this spring when I got mine out. opned the carb, sprayed the float and jet with a bunch of carb cleaner and just didled the float a few times to work it in.  Worked like a charm

There will be no didiling of the float on this forum.

You should check the float level is correct if your diddling as you might have changed it playing around.

Thank you all for your replies!
I'll open up the bowl and inspect the o-ring. I'll also measure the float size because I'm not sure if the last owner replaced it with a float from another carb, if you guys have the measurements of the float, It will be useful!!

Well there’s some missing information. Yes, the wrong float could certainly cause the leaking.

Yeah if were being honest I have the hardest time believing that just lifting the float with your finger 2-3 times means you risk messing the float level.

To be honest, he had his mechanic install the carb so we don't know if the float level was ever checked, if all he does is spray it like you advised it could still flood . If you're already there why do a half fast job. He said it was a used carb do we know the mechanic cleaned it?

Fabricio, it would be most helpful if you could remove the carburetor, remove the float bowl, and take a bunch of pictures.  Post pictures of the internals and identify the vent where you see the fuel running out.

its 4 screws my guy.  I would much rather take off 4 screws and clean it, as you helpfully suggested, and check if that was an issue over removing the carb.  I dont think trouble shooting the common issues is "half fasting" it

Sawkuh , so you sprayed your carb and got lucky, that's hardly the same situation Fabricio  faces with his used carb and therefore poor advise.
