The letter is dated the same day as the invasion- essentially, it was designed to goad Erdogan into action, distract from rising calls for impeachment.   Trump creates a crisis, then pretends to fix it- it's no different than a gangster breaking your windows at night, then selling protection during the day.   No one is fooled, and there is no expectation of anyone being fooled- they want us to know their capacity... it's part of the shake-down.   Of coarse, none of it works without the Brown Shirts parading through our digital town square, celebrating the criminal as a great leader, letting us know that our neighborhoods have been captured from within.  That is their hope, anyway.

Folks like the trolls here believe they will just slink back under their rock at the turning of the tide, anonymous- but they have been indelibly stained.   Years from now, when asked what they did for our country in this moment, they will look away in shame, or offer a weak lie that no one will believe- including themselves.

"The letter is dated the same day as the invasion-"

Yeah these parameters were set prior to the release or the "letter" but that is just how things get released publicly so people will obviously think changes are made after and not planned before.

In any case it damages our ability to ally with other nations in time of need.  They can just let us fight our own wars from now on.  Which sounds great for those typing safely from the couch at home, but not so great for those out there doing the work.

They have been killing each other for a loong time.
We went IN there to put that Isis bunch to rest..
That's done.

Wartime alliances are determined by the self interest of the parties involved, nothing else.

The Soviets were our allies in WW2 and our absolute enemy until the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991. I'm sure you can think of lots of other examples.

The Kurds will be fine. They have already hooked up with Russia and Syria. I wouldn't shed any tears for them. They have already moved on and done what they think is in their best interest.

Again easy to say from home.  The Kurds will most likely be of value and be able to create an alliance elsewhere but that does not mean they will be fine.

"Wartime alliances are determined by the self interest of the parties involved, nothing else."

The process of disengagement does influence the perception of US value in future and current negotiations.  I'm not saying we should not leave Syria, I am saying we could have done it through planning and not executive order alone.

This feels like a political move that from a logistics position could have been done in a better way for everyone involved.

Every time we go into the Middle East with armed forces or pull our forces out of a Middle Eastern country, there are members of Congress on both sides who scream Armageddon. The people crying the loudest today were recently quiet when Hopey-Change made troop withdrawls so I don't take anyone too seriously over this. I'll wait and see what happens.

Au-sum, "...a weak lie that no one will believe- including themselves..."
