Does a 1/2 oz unbalance need a weight? (Read 82 times)

Reply #1 - 09/28/19 at 09:18:36 if this is the front tire at 60mph it will spin roughly 800rpm so that 1/2 oz will add up to some vibration. if my math serves me it will come out to about 7lbs of force thats gonna be noticed

I haven't put it on the bike yet. I'm asking because once the wheel has been coupled to the pulley hub and pulley and the potential change in balance from those is half an ounce worth the worry. I just had the cast aluminum GS wheel powder coated too so I don't care to mess up part of the coating for no real reason.

Reply #4 - 09/28/19 at 10:37:19 Mark the rim with tape as to where the weight should go. Take it out for a ride. If you note vibration then place the weight where you marked the rim with tape.

Reply #7 - 09/28/19 at 13:44:11 Put the axle in with the pulley. Set it up however you must, hanging, on a stand, give it an easy spin, see where it stops. Do it until you see a pattern. Weight appropriately or use balance beads.

Reply #9 - 09/28/19 at 17:58:22 Stainless steel balancing beads, 1.5 oz in the front, 2.5 oz in the back. Throw those weights away. From 25 or so up your wheels will run smooth as glass. And they are always correcting, if you loose a chunk of rubber or skid a flat spot, they don't care.

I marked the spot and have an appropriate stick on weight. I'm thinking it won't be noticeable. Once the bikes back on the road I can add the weight otherwise
