The DR cam in the Savage. Do I adjust the valves to the DR, or Savage specs ?

Aren't they both the same, .003 to .005" ?

I thought I saw somewhere that the exhaust clearance on the DR was different.  If both are the same, no problem.   Thanks.

Standard Savage spec’s, and I believe the DR has the same.

I've been setting mine at .003 to .005.  It works fine.

Since the cam is nearly the same in both bikes - but the rockers and head are different.......I would use the Savage clearances and not the DR.

Dave 's right, the settings I found for the DR were .004 -intake, .010 exhaust .   Way different than the Savage's  stock .005/.005.which I would use at LEAST*until the break in period is over.

  * the DR cam not having oil passages to the cam lobes faces ,and the fact that the flat face of the rocker may  tend to wipe oil from the lobes due to the cams higher lift (thus higher spring pressure)  I would tend to stay at the stock settings.

Watch the years when looking at DR specs, they are different for 96 and later.

Pre 1996 DR650 Valve clearance specifications:
IN.      0.08 - 0.13mm (0.003 - 0.005in)
EX.        0.08 - 0.13mm (0.003 - 0.005in)

1996- DR650 Valve clearance (when cold):
IN.      0.08 - 0.13mm (0.003 - 0.005in)
EX.        0.17 - 0.22mm (0.007 - 0.009in)

I guess I was looking at the 96, the web page I was looking at didn't give the year . OOPS! I think I would still stay with the .005 setting in the Savage , unless the DR cam shaft and lobes get drilled to match the stock Savage cam.

The model years for the DR that is common for some of the engine parts is 1990-1995, and perhaps earlier for a couple of the 600 models.

I was surprised that the valve specs for the DR were that much different on the exhaust.
