looking for info on carb or direct fit carb
06/13/19 at 08:57:58

ok everyone here is what has been done, screaming eagle exhaust, timing chain update, ryca k&n filter and I have read and read and re-read about the jets. I did the jet update and its running so so rich it has made parts of the garage BLACK. what am I missing? is there a carb that I can buy that would be a direct fit. I just want to ride without all these problems.

It is the stock HD Dyna exhaust that most mention.
The Screaming Eagle is not the same.
What jets did you install in your carb and what is your pilot screw setting ?
What part of the country do you live in ?

Lancer the jets I used were 152.5 and 55 plus the two washer update. And I live in Wichita Falls Texas. I also changed out the pilot screw with the carb rebuild kit and I screwed it in all the way and back it back out 1/4 turn. It runs great at idle but when you give it the gas it pops and bangs. any help would be great

I think you may have assembled your carb incorectly.
please review and check your carb.
Typical things that happen to newbs...
install the jets in the wrong locations.
white spacer below the needle.
slide spring not straight.
no washer under the main jet.
cone filter that blocks the inlet to the slide diaphragm.

verslagen1,
install the jets in the wrong locations.
I only changed the main and pilot but I will double check
white spacer below the needle.
the white spacer mod I was real careful about how it went back, I looked
at diagrams to see exactly how it went back together. But again I will double check
slide spring not straight.
ok on the slide spring are you talking about the big spring for the
  diaphragm?
no washer under the main jet.
I know I got this one correct
cone filter that blocks the inlet to the slide diaphragm.
well I am actually using the original black sleeve then I put I the ryca 90 and then the filter..
Thank you. I will take any all advise to correct this issue

Yes, some how it's gets folded over on the end and won't allow the slide to operate.
Also, make sure to seat the diaphragm correctly.

All in all, sounds like you got it covered.

But it sounds like there's a blockage somewhere or the main jet is way undersized.
Screaming eagles are just about the same as no pipe at all.
Most would have troubles getting to run right all thru the range.
I'd clean the carb and up the jet a notch.

verslagen1,
when I took the carb off last night I noticed the diaphragm was stuck at the top when I looked inside. I would think it would move freely up and down and not get stuck. Would that cause it to run so rich? and as far as the main jet - man I really thought I had to gone down a few sizes..I will mess around with it. but the diaphragm being stuck up has me bothered..any Idea on that?

Well there's your problem.  The white spacer goes on top of the needle clip, and the small spring goes under the clip.

Dave that was a typo, I got the white spacer mod on top. you can screw the plate down and see it. should the diaphragm be stuck up when its not running?

About the only other thing to check is to be sure your float height is set right ,if that were to high it could make the carb run to rich . That height doesn't include the gasket.

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE,
Well I went back with the stock air mix screw, and went down to 147.5 - 52.5 on the jets, cleaned it all up really good, made sure the diaphragm was not pitched and the big screw was straight. If any new people are looking at this post then please take this advice, cheap doesnt mean its good...but it still running just a smidge rich but it was late last night when I finished, so I will mess with it today. thanks everyone.

Good news and great advice.  If you feel you're still rich, I'd start with going down on the pilot and possibly a mild white spacer mod.   I'm running a 47.5 pilot with a 147.5 main and a 3/4 spacer mod and having pretty good luck.  My bike is stock with a Dyna muffler.

I think a lot of people think they automatically need richer jetting when the change the pipe and air filter and that may not always be true. If in doubt, go back to stock (or close to stock) and try again.

Ok so I brought the bike to work. The bike runs great at half throttle just cruising. It was doing this really bad before I got into the carb and did updates. Now its still doing it but not as bad. When I 1st tore the carb apart it looked as though someone had attempted the white spacer mod but messed it up, so I m thinking I should just get the true spacer and try that. Also Batman said that the float height could be wrong, so I will check into that as well. And I had heard someone say that the ignition coil could be breaking down. Its 22 years old and it looks it too. whats your thoughts on the coil?
