I just sold a 2007 w/17k-miles on it for $1k.

They are solid bikes with a good history.

But I didn't see any way to get around the chain drive
or
The dual carbs.

So ... it had to go !

The GS500 is a reliable motorcycle that is not in high demand......but can offer plenty of reliable fun.  I owned a Ninja 250 for 3 years and had a ball on it....the GS500 is similar but with more power.  Sport bike riders generally wan't something bigger/better/faster/sportier and as a result the GS500 doesn't sell very well.

If you can get a good one cheap, are OK with the fact that you likely will not make any money when you try to sell it and just want to go out and ride and have fun.......I can't see any reason not to get one.

If you can find Suzuki SV650 bikes affordably - they are certainly a step up in desirability, performance, luggage options and accessories.
