Riding my bike....I saved a life!
08/26/18 at 18:27:37

I went for a short ride before dinner - I had been working in the yard moving/raking dirt and it was 90 degrees......I needed a break and I took a shower and went for a ride.

I was riding on all the shady back roads I could find, and at one point I saw something up ahead bouncing from the left side of the road toward the centerline.  By the time I got up there and could see it was a frog hopping across the road - and in pursuit was a black snake in hot pursuit.  The frog was jumping and then pausing for a couple of seconds between jumps, and the snake was having a bit of trouble getting traction on the hot asphalt - but seemed to be keeping pace with the frog while they were on the pavement.

I pulled up in between them - the frog took a few more jumps over to the gravel driveway on the right side....while the snake made a quick retreat back to the tall grass on the left side of the road.

I really don't know who has more speed and stamina - a frog or a snake.  I suspect the snake would not have come back out into the open after I interrupted his chase.....but who knows?

It was a bit weird to see unless you are Marlin Perkins or Marty Stouffer  - but it is one of the fun things about riding a motorcycle!

Glad you were there to “hop” into action and save the froggy. I’m sure the snake was “hissed” that you ruined his dinner.  Grin Cheesy Grin Cheesy

Might have been better to run over the snake if you thought the frog a more valuable animal, what if the snake was poison(7000-8000 bitten  in the US every year) ,and decided to strike at your leg when you stopped ? Would the frog have tried to save you? Might have been better to ride around both and let nature take it's course .

It was a Black Snake, not at all dangerous if you are bigger than a mouse or frog.

We have two kinds of black snakes around here - the Rat Snake is not very shiny, fatter around and has a slight pattern in the color, and the Racer is thinner/faster and very shiny. (This one was a racer).

The black snakes in this area are very helpful in keeping the mice/rat populations down and they are a good animal to have around and they should not be killed  (I would not have stopped the snake if it was chasing a mouse).

The weird part was the snake sort of blended in with all the other tar snakes...until I was that this one was moving!

Well this is weird....this must be my back to nature week.

It is dark here now, and a few minutes ago I went out to the garage - on the way I saw a large toad on the new concrete......and behind him was a large mass and some liquid running down the driveway.  I initially felt bad as I must have run over him with the car and squashed him.  I went over and picked him up....and he was fine!  He just had a major Bowel Movement!  I have never seen a toad doing #2.....it was huge!

No....and I am not on anything!

The toad was a pretty big one as the local toads go.....but the Poo was almost as long as the whole darn toad!

It does solve the mystery of what has been leaving manure on my driveway and porch all these years.....I thought it was a small furry animal.
