S40 > Dunlop tire question
07/20/18 at 18:10:03
Looking for opinions: Is the Dunlop K555 tire that went on the back of my S40 this Spring naturally a rough, vibrating ride (compared to the original OEM tire), or is it the Dyna Beads I let the shop use to balance it? Tire pressure is correct.
-thanks

I have a thing against beads to balance. Some say they work. I would go back to balance with weights, but how do you get that junk out ?

I have inner tubes front and back, so the only way to get out of this is to break down the wheel and install a new tube, then balance in the conventional manner. I'm undecided whether it's worth all of that, which is why I've posted for opinions.

The information I have suggests that the beads will cause imbalance which again will create more stress on the shock absorbers in particular and the whole machine in general. It will also cause more rapid tyre wear.
1 ounce out of balance will have an impact of 4.6 lbs at 60 mph.
So is it worth taking off the tyres, fit new tubes and balance the wheels properly? For me, yes. YMMV.

One thing is sure tubes are cheap. Removing the tire is a little work but if the wheel is vibrating, doing the work would be worth it to me. You will almost certainly get more wear out of the tire.
