I have neglected the lower piece of my property for a few months.
It’s down, outback, and I really don’t use it for much, about 1/4 acre.
I decided to mow it today.
Once I got down to it, I was in waist high grass and stinging nettle, blackberries, however, mostly grass....
I was almost done when I decided to hit this patch that was up on a little spot I cleared a few years ago, where I put in a slider swing.
It’s under a big native maple, and backs up to the jungle.
I could tell a deer had been bedding their.
All of a sudden I was getting atacked, I stupidly had on shorts, I know better, but, what the heck....
I mean it felt like my legs caught fire 🔥
With the mower still running I just ran as fast as I could.
Got to where I felt safe and stopped to look at my legs.
I thought for sure I would see some fire ants, or something still crawling around, nothing.
My legs were stinging, and I saw about half a dozen red welts starting to form....
I went into the house, stripped off my shorts, put some long legged scrubs, and went back to shut off the mower.
I turned it off, looked around, nothing, then all of a sudden my arms get stinging..... WTF.
I run up to the house, show my wife, she says to strip and get into the shower and use soap and water to clean those red areas....
I did, it felt good.
Googled biting flies and I see I got bit by deer flys....
Well, lesson is to keep the grass mowed low, etc, they like that sorta environment.
Took some Benadryl just to be safe.
That was a first for me, wasn’t fun
