Can I actually tell you why? No. I am not an economist. But I will tell you what I THINK is why.

When you look across the map of American and who votes blue and who votes red we count the individual vote and that is good but the blue votes are concentrated in urban areas only. what you will see is a vast sea of red. PS. this is why the Electoral College is in place.

I understand the Electoral college and don't disagree with it for the most part, I do wish there was a point system or something so that the majority of the nation can get a voice too, so like, if one person wins the majority they get a certain amount of points added to their electoral college win, let's say like 10 or something, Idk the exact number but something that at least is a tie breaker, in my mind Trump would have still won in this system, but some representation of the nation as awhole in the electorate

That VAST amount of red is WAYYYYYY more confident about what is happening in this country today. They like the tax cuts. They like the FOCUS on American and it's citizens. They FEEL like someone at least cares a little about them, instead of ignoring them for illegal immigrants and every other person. They at least think that there is some hope to protect our moral vales.

Trump is protecting their moral values???????   the 3 times divorced, greedy, incompetent businessman Trump???  The cheating on his wife even now Trump?  The Trump that said he'd be LBGTQ's best friend at the Republican convention Trump?   or did they know he was lying then... so the Lying Trump????

They didn't think Obama cared about them? Obama who tried to get them healthcare for their very lives? The Obama that got us out of the recession, who wanted to protect against it from happening again, didn't care???  The Obama that was known as the "deporter in cheif"?

huh, okay....

Did you know that the people of America are the most generous in the world and that the American people give more money to charities and relief activities than all the rest of the world combined? Yet if you listen to the news and the left we are just a bunch of racist, uncaring, selfish people. All of that vast amount of red is sick of hearing that lie.

What news is telling you that?  are you listening to Fox news rail on and on, again and again and again, (I know they repeat themselves A LOT on that station and all across conservative radio too, i've heard it) They take someone addressing a fault of the nation, some area that needs improving and they spin it to the Left hating ALL of America.

Cause there's not a majority of democrats or liberals that think America is vastly selfish or racist, they point out areas, and then Fox News and conservatives distort that into them saying that ALL Cops are racists, no one really believes that. They believe that there's a problem with the militarization of the cops and how they are trained and how they don't represent the areas they patrol.

You are listening to "news" that is feeding you things to motivate you to do what they want, pointing out racial problems is NOT saying All Americans are racists, taking compassion on children brought here by their parents illegally is NOT amnesty for criminals, wanting to take care of the poor via government is not declaring anyone selfish ( although, with this one, I kinda get the perspective you are coming from, but feel it's being exaggerated as is done by media of all sides.)

I think the vast majority of America are sick to death of having all these fringe social issues being the center point of the media and government when they are just trying to get a decent job, pay their bills and raise their kids in a moral society where they don't have to worry about boys being in the girls locker rooms.

Fair enough, but since those are fringe issues, what's the big deal here?

I am sorry but the Democrats and left, along with the media, have lost touch with the realities of being an American, who we are and what we stand for. They are sick of being told they are racist and homophobic by people that only have the right to make the complaints because their children and forefathers died to give them that freedom.

fair enough, there is a lot of "playing to the base/extremists" to get attention in the media to get money, etc...., again this happens on both sides, both sides have moved more and more to their extreme sides

This is the greatest country on earth. And by the way, although slavery is a dark spot on our history. It was those darn Christian abolitionist and hundreds of thousands of white people that died to end it. why don't we ever remember that?

maybe it's because it was also christians that used the bible to defend slavery???

They are sick of watching the news and it's onslaught against the President they elected. They are sick of the corruption, they are sick of nothing happening. They are sick of hearing about Russia and the excuses the left make. Trump won and like Obama said. Elections have consequences.

But Fox News and conservative radio also lead an onslaught against Obama, a president elected by the people as well.

you are right Obama did very little while he was president, well, of course he had a republican congress for 6 years of his presidency so ....

The corruption like Pruitt??  there is still a TON of corruption in the government, and Trump really ISN'T helping get rid of it, only when his administration is caught does something happen to minimize it

Russia.... how many indictments so far...  like 50??   yeah, nothing to see there, nothing to see, keep moving, keep moving

with that said, I think Trump just plain outworked Clinton to win for the most part, but if we can do something to make our elections safer from outside influence, what's wrong with that?

My Granddaughter that is 9 years old came home from school and told me that Trump was the worst President ever, that he was a racist and she hates him. This is what the leftist considers education for 3rd graders along with telling her it is OK to have sex with anyone anytime she so desires. And guess what? That Vast amount of red is sick of this stuff.

are you sure your school is teaching her it's okay to have sex anytime with anyone???  I somehow highly doubt that

I think the Blue is going to get another rude awakening come November.

we'll see

and basically, what you said about the economy doing better, is because "people feel better" .  basically, they've been holding back while Obama was in office because they were being cautious about having one of them "pinko communist Kenyans" in office, since you didn't provide any regulations that were rolled back or direct tax cut benefits ( you kinda mentioned that but just that people like them, not that they actually did any good) so it's all about coddling those in power to make them feel good to spend money

really?

Interesting, and yes the map MN refers us to is mostly red.  We should not forget that almost 3 million more people voted for HRC than DJT.

Sorta like the stat that almost 90% of Canadians live within 100 miles of the USA.   It is a weird world. Wink

I think it may be urban vs country, but it may be costal vs inland with coastal having more contact with other lands and seeing examples of life outside of corn and pork (I am not being derrogatory here, just examples). Please note the Mississippi River is navigateable so I include it as coastal.

Let’s see, a 5th (+/-),  grader,  comes home with the idea that the current POTUS is the Worst.  Is a, Racist, and she  Hates  him ?
Though about this, did the research, then came to those conclusions, all by herself, did she ?
Or ya think, a, Fairy Dust Sprinkling sprinkling, Kum-By-You singing, masquerading as a 5th grade teacher, TOLD HER, to say those things ?????????

But you, Skirt, Misdirect, the subject.

Well rather standard thoughts for a ultra-Lib !

Lost,

I appreciate your critique a couple quick comments.

Trump has nothing to do with it. Most conservatives see progressiveness as the problem, men in girls bathrooms, unfettered abortion, 67 definitions of gender. Trump was just the only choice to slow down progressiveness. As far as Obama goes it is again not about Obama. it is about a progressive world view that wants bigger Government and control. Most Americans do not want more government control, we see that as bad. I will run my own life.

I agree that both sides are guilty but like I said most Americans are sick of it. Voting for Trump was not only against the Democrats, it was also against the establishment Republicans. The media and the parties do not seem to realize this. Go anywhere in academia and see what the attitude is towards America these days.

maybe it's because it was also christians that used the bible to defend slavery???

There is some truth to what you said. but the small minority that used the Bible (falsely) to condone slavery does not take away from the fact that it was the Christian Abolitionist that worked so hard to stop slavery, run the underground railroad and bring forth the idea that all men are created equal means ALL men.

But Fox News and conservative radio also lead an onslaught against Obama, a president elected by the people as well.

you are right Obama did very little while he was president, well, of course he had a republican congress for 6 years of his presidency so ....

Once again those that elected Trump were not just against the Democrats but against an out of control government. He just happened to be the only choice.

Did Russia mess in our election? Sure! Do you really expect them not to? we do it. We should be focused on that and not turning it in to a political issue to overthrow an elected President. The whole idea that Trump and his people got together with the Russians and the came up with a plan to steal an election is just silly.

and basically, what you said about the economy doing better, is because "people feel better" .  basically, they've been holding back while Obama was in office because they were being cautious about having one of them "pinko communist Kenyans" in office, since you didn't provide any regulations that were rolled back or direct tax cut benefits ( you kinda mentioned that but just that people like them, not that they actually did any good) so it's all about coddling those in power to make them feel good to spend money

You making this about Race is exactly what we hate. Nobody care about Obama being black! of course that is not true either because he is also White. The confidence has to do with Progressives that want to move toward socialistic policy and bigger government with more interference vs those that believe in free inter prize. with less government interference.

thanks for your appreciation and civility

where'd I make this about race?  I mentioned a NATIONALITY, not a race, YOU did that, and that's what YOU WON"T OWN. I mentioned the nationality because I gave you all the benefit of the doubt that you didn't care about race, but rather Obama's "otherness/foreignness."  notice I said "pinko communist" FIRST which is relevant to the rest of your reply.  I, too, believe it was more about the liberal/progressive nature of Obama than his race, but I DIDN"T MAKE IT ALL ABOUT HIS RACE, acknowledge that you snapped to that and made it into something YOU HATE.

so, the idea that progressives, wanting to take care of the needy, while yes, requires bigger government, to me, this says a sad fact about America that you aren't seeing.  the reality is that charity is NOT ENOUGH. it's just not. I applaud it and take place in as best I can but too many Americans are falling behind, Education and Healthcare are VITAL to a nation's success, and our inability to invest in that as a nation is our downfall.  And I want to be clear, there is NOTHING wrong with working a manual labor job, factory work, plumber, etc.... We need all that too, but the key factor to our success as a nation is INNOVATION so we need to curate an environment that continues to create that.

sorry about the caps, they are just for emphasis, I am not yelling

I see your point here and can own up to that. In the words of Springsteen " like a dog that's been beat to much you spend half your life trying to cover up"

I do not think that progressives wanting to help people is bad either. I think the approach to fixing it is bad. You say that the success of this Nation will be INNOVATION, I agree! The difference is I believe government hinders innovation while free enterprise fosters it. One of the places that progressives do not like is that greed motivates people and profit is the primary motivator. I also understand that sometimes that greed needs to be checked. Also when the government gives it becomes an entitlement. let me give an example.

I grew up in the 60's and 70's, drugs, sex and rock and roll. During that time I never got anyone pregnant, I knew the consequences so did everyone else. We took care of our own Birth control and if something did happen it was our responsibility to handle, however one decided to handle it. TODAY, for some reason people think that they have a right to sex and that I the tax payer is some how responsible for providing the necessary tools to have safe sex and if they are incapable of controlling their desires it my responsibility to fix it. What we need is more responsibility.

The problem with Government health care is it becomes a black hole of corruption and waste and creates a society without responsibility.

We in our church used to go into the city near me and feed the homeless all the time. That is until the city got involved and set so many rules and regulations on us that we could no longer accomplish our simple task of feeding people. I agree, there is not enough Charity. But Government hinders Charitable works.

I sat on the Board Of Directors for a food Pantry in my area and for years we feed the local needy that is until the Government came in and placed so many regulations on us that we had to shut down.

And many of the regulations were put there by a congress pandering to the large farm and dairy  lobbies, who vote red cause while they hate the government, they are never slow to  use it. Grin

The US per person pays way more than any other people in the world.  Is it because we are sicker?  While government health care may be a black hole, that would be an improvement to what we have presently; and I suspect a good base medicare for all with privatized add ons for all the rich who need the face lifts etc might be a partial solution.  The graft and corruption in the system has to be rooted out with severe penalties to physicians who over bill but basic health care and preventive care (to minimize higher costs further down the road) seem sensible. Shocked

I don't disagree with you that there is a LOT that needs to be fixed. I just dont think a one payer system fixes anything. All that does is take the corruption out of the private market pockets and put it into the Government pockets.

Well, usually privatizing  a function reduces the quality of the product, reduces the coast for only a short time, and lines the pockets of both the politicians and the business owners (I think that is a fair assessment of the privatized prison system for example) with the very destructive lets keep the cells filled (for max profit) I hope unintended consequence. Wink

OH, I sometimes think we should have a yearly decimation of the incarcerated program.  Each Warden pick 100 who will be safe (to motivate good behavior among the prison population) and then 1 in 10 of the rest will be executed humanely (if that isn't a contradiction?).
Should help us reduce coasts. Shocked Shocked

But I guess we are guilty of thread drift and I don't want to be incarcerated.
