Starting the Savage

I am finding it hard to start the bike first thing in the morning and sometimes even after a ride. It start smelling of petrol, I do tap the carb in case the float got stuck but still takes ages to start. I checked for air leaks which I found none....and I have Raptor Petcock any suggestions TIA .

Pull and clean the carb, check the jet sizes (are they right for your elevation) .have you done the spacer mod?  when you fixed the bowl drain ,did you alter the float level?

How old is your battery?...  In our bike, spark tends to go weak before cranking is noticeably slowed...

I buy a used bike
I'm probably gonna stick a known battery in it.
Either the PO stuck in a cheap one to get it sold or it's the one that was in it for who knows how long.
Take it to be tested
Or
Get a good battery
Now is a good time to build a pigtail for a charger to connect to.
The clip together, two wire, sixteen gauge from a wiring harness out of a junker work fine.
