Loose inner exhaust ?
06/21/18 at 19:22:39

Something sounded buzzy today, so at the end of my ride, I could only find a 'twangy' sound on tapping the exhaust.  Too hot to check now, but is this common, or likely?
cheers Cool

OK, I'll bite . What's a twang?  A buzzing coming from the exhaust ,I'd be looking at the heat shield at the front of the muffler first. Then the muffler mounting bolts.

tapped it with a rubber hammer and it sounded 'twangy'. While riding, something sounds loose, like a sheet metal piece.  I may have to take it off tomorrow to check. cheers! Cool
ps: everything else is tight.

There have been other forum members who have had the inside of their muffler come apart.

This could be your sign that you need a DYNA muffler! Wink  (And....some DYNA mufflers have come apart after many miles).

Dyna done a year ago, the ex manifold has 'twang'.
Also, I apparently have lost a fibre washer from the sprocket cover, as it is also 'twangy'. Further investigation warranted! cheers! Cool

A Twang is a musical term.

If it's buzzing inside the header you should be able to find it cold.
Stethoscope and soft face hammer.

At 42k miles I've burned out two Harley mufflers so far... I seem to get about 20k out of them...
No rust here,... must be the hellacious temps...  Huh

Found the 'twang' came from the sprocket cover missing a rubber O ring/ gasket on one of the three bolts. Exhaust OK ! Cool
