Power is being sent out of Somewhere to the flasher unit and the bulb.
My first stop would be the switch. Whether it provides the hot or ground, it's a piece of the puzzle.

The ignition switch sends power directly to the flasher unit.....the wife then goes to the left handlebar switch.  When the turn signal switch is moved, the circuit is then completed to either the left or right signals......and a small wire is part of the wiring harness and it carries the power to the indicator panel.

When the left blinker stays on....is it both the front and rear - and does it blink or stay on steady?  Is the indicator light on the panel by the speedometer also lit?

the left front doesn't com on at all. No blinking etc. The left rear is on all the time. The right side works as it should.

So it appears the right side works as it should....so perhaps the switch is functioning OK.

It appears that when you burned up the resistor....somehow you got a power supply to the left front turn signal, and broke the connection to the rear turn signal.....and also the connection to the handlebar switch for the left side.

You need to start tracing wires....testing wires at the connectors, and isolate the source of the power to the left front turn signal....and the broken connection to the left rear.  The indicator light on the panel is tied into the wiring for the front turn signals.....so it does light up with the front turn signal as it should.

The only way you can get this resolved is to get a color coded wiring harness, a volt meter.....and start tracing wires to find where things have gone wacky.

The wiring schematic is in the Tech Section....or in the Clymer manual.

It is under the tank, on the right side of the upper frame tube near the coil.  It is a small black cube mounted with a black rubber strap - it has 2 wires connected to it.

( I believe you can just barely see it if you look in the front of the tank slot as it fits over the frame).

All FIXED. The problem was the terminal on the flasher was corroded. I put the new flasher on....nothing......put the old one back....nothing.... used contact cleaner and put the old flasher on.....quick flashing......put the new flasher back on.....Perfect! Who'd have thought? Cool
