I recently bought a 96 Savage, for a good price, nice shape, etc.
I have added the verslagen cam chain adjuster, the cylinder head plug
he sells and added the raptor petcock. Still have to raise the seat. 10k original miles.
I thought it wise to remove and inspect each front disc bolt clean and re torque. However, even being very careful, I snapped one off in the wheel hub. I tried a screw extractor - not working, so I drilled it out an re- tapped, but now the threads are a bit sloppy, I thought of a heli coil, but
decided, probably two much stress in this application. So I bought a used
front wheel off ebay. My question is , is it proper to run a tap through each hole on the new/used hub, and a die on each bolt just to clean them up on this 22 year old savage that has never been apart or am I just taking more off of the threads and creating more issues down the road.
Thanks !
