Horrible to hear this type of stuff. I'll be sending this thread to the gf, she scares the crap out of me the way she motors into corners. I'm always warning her of exactly this type of thing. Then there's the drivers who cross over the centreline around corners coming straight towards you. Not much you can do about that. Agree that sand is even worse than gravel.

Or the car drivers who cross the line to go past a cyclist!!

Islandroad they have made that a law around here. All vehicles are supposed to give pedestrians and bicyclists a minimum of 4 feet on passing them. Given the state prescribed lane width and the width of most cars, that puts you into the opposing lane to make sure you give them their 4 feet.

Serow...sorry about your mishap. That tiny gravel and sand will get you every time. Glad to hear that you are pretty much ok though. I know the bike will get fixed as soon as you are able and I think I remember seeing already where you were riding again.

Thanks Steve,... I'm riding again,... going out today as a matter of fact...  The bike's just a bit worse for the wear, but I still love it.
Worst of it now is my thumbs,...
I always hurt my thumbs when I have a get off...  I'm taping them up a bit for riding....

The cyclist thing is one metre clearance in NZ, some Australian states may have similar things.

On the cyclist thing .... surely the law includes something about passing them only when it is safe - the same as when you overtake a car, you need to make sure there isn't a vehicle coming in the other direction. Otherwise, you wait to pass the cyclist.

Of course that would mean you can't pass a cyclist if you have to cross double solid lines!
