Hello everyone!
I just purchased a new S40 (2014 model, still crated). Does anyone know if there are any year specific issues with this bike? Not that it is having trouble or anything, I am just curious. This is my first 650 after my little GZ 250, which
I regret ever selling. Thanks for all of the helpful information on the forums!

The 2014 model doesn't have anything out of the ordinary.  It has the potential vacuum petcock failure issue that can be corrected by adding and manually operated petcock.  It needs a proper oil - this forum recommends the using Rotella T or T-6 as they have enough ZDDP to keep the cam and rocker arms healthy for 150,000 miles and more.  Once you get to 10,000 miles or more....the cam chain tensioner should be checked to see how far it is extended.  The head plug may develop a leak, and if so it should be replaced with the improved version that is made by our forum member and Moderator Verslagen.

Stock tires aren't all that good ,like in the rain. When it's time for new ones you'll be better off  if you change the rear to a 140/90/15 (it will fit easily, and you'll have a wide selection  of brands) rather than the OEM 140 /80/15 and it helps correct speedo  error .(with stock tire it usually reads 60 but you may only be going 55).

I thought the 5 mph faster reading was to keep us from speeding too much!😉

I think manufacturers err on the side of overestimating speed just to be safe, because they'll never be 100% correct Wink
