Is that a bitter and expensive memory? Grin

Hahaha ... no! it is the result of researching on this site while tuning my carb!! In fact, as far as I understand, the little Savage can't generate enough power to blow it's own top. However I wouldn't want to drop down a gear accidentally while testing top speed! .... I have missed a shift a couple of times though!  Cool

Note to norm92de:

I updated my post with the instructions and
pictures for installing the RYCA tachometer.
They are the ones that IslandRoad used for
his installation in the picture above.

Here's the link to my post:

Let IslandRoad or myself know if you have any questions.

Low compression(8.5:1) and valve float if you over rev , makes the chance of blowing the engine ,zero.(but I wouldn't make it a habit)

FWIW,
Wiring in to the horn is not necessary since the positive side of the ignition coil is as positive as it gets. The only problem is the number of wires involved. Smiley

Hi Norm, I commented in the other tach thread also. I'm really curious about your comment. Is there a simpler way to install? Would be good to know 😉

Islandroad,
B+ is all over the bike. the two nearest are the horn, as you used, and the plus side of the ignition coil. I don't think it matters much which is used.

I have made a bracket but am going to try it a bit before I decide on the final location. Mine mounts on the handlebar clamps, either fore or aft of the bars. A little high but I can easily make a lower mount if I want to. Smiley

Here is picture of my tach. bracket. It is not much, I just happened to have some scrap alloy hanging around.

It is a little high but not as high as it looks, wide angle lens and all that. It can be mounted in front of or behind the bars. Will probably make a lower one when I can get a better piece of alloy.

Thanks for sharing those pictures, Norm.

That's a simple, sturdy bracket that anyone should be
able to make and it provides a couple of mounting options.

Nice work.

Suggest you add the pictures to the Tachometer Installation
thread in the Technical section so others will see them.

My bracket was only designed that way because I had the metal available. A piece of 3/32' thick aluminum 1.5" x 5" long would be great. Only 4 holes to drill. very simple.

It could be mounted in front of or behind the handlebars. And below the handlebar cross member on top of the risers as desired.

Adding a Tach is an awesome Idea. I always thought the 650 needed another instrumentation device or two.

I thought the same thing. So I added a tach. Once I learned a bit about the bike, especially from the readout from the tach, I discovered its not really
necessary. Although, it does look good!

I wish the bike had a fuel gauge!
