Does anyone have a method of keeping rust from forming on the inside of an empty spare tank ?
I have one that I won't be using for a month or so and I don't want it to rust on the inside .
Keeping it full of fuel is not an option as it will be stored inside .

What I do with my BMW tank during the winter months is to remove it, completely drain it out, and then take a quart or two of good clean motor oil (must have at least 1,400 ZDDP! - just kidding) and put into tank.  Roll it around so that every surface is coated.  Then in the spring, I would drain out oil from tank, wash out a bit with clean gasoline, and voila!  Ready for summer.

I have also heard that using the Marine version of StaBil will also help if  you want to keep gasoline in the tank.

Keep it full. Rust can’t form in fuel.

You are correct , I will be keeping it inside .
I have thought about putting a couple of those " do not eat " packets on a string and put them in the tank

I was cleaning some parts before welding and it was a little damp when I threw it in the gas.  Took them out and they had spots on them from the ethanol and a little bit of water.

if it's empty, leave it empty. pour a cup of old oil in, swirl it around, drain it out, cap it tape it, done.

if you don't like the oil idea, use diesel fuel.  it leaves a oily film.

 Depending on how humid it is where you are those silica gel packs will prevent moisture build-up.

 I live in a relatively dry area and toss those in tanks that will sit for years and have had zero issue.
