The economy added 261,000 jobs in October, the Labor Department reported Friday, upfrom a gain of 18,000in September.
Average hourly private-sector earnings were up 2.4 percent over the previous year. In September, they were up 2.8 percent.The unemployment rate was 4.1 percent, down slightly from September's 4.2 percent.
Analysts surveyed by Bloomberg hadpredicted the creation of 325,000 jobs, an increase in over-the-year hourly earnings of 2.7 percent, and an unemployment rate of 4.2 percent.
