How often do you check TDC?

There's a port on the front of the engine that apparently gives access to the engine case so you can find TDC. How often is this required?

I'm creating a new engine cradle and need design proper access to this plug. If it's infrequent (annual) I'd provide just enough clearance to fit around the plug. So some disassembly of the engine cradle would be required to fully access it. If it's frequent (twice a season) I'd do something to allow full removal of the plug without additional disassembly of the cradle. And no, the cradle won't be hardboard, that's just a template

Never heard of that being associated with TDC. I have been messing with these engines for quite a few years and I have never needed that. I thought that was a plug for the oil galley where they connected two lines.

Rounded bolts, non-stock fasteners, etc. By that measure this plug has never been touched Great to know, thanks for your help!

( when finding TDC the Clymer's tell you to rotate the motor clockwise, which is wrong! you need to rotate it the same direction the wheels turn -counter clock wise.

I always check the angle when I park the bike. Consequently, I don't think it needs to be very tight.

Good idea to get a manual. They are on closeout at BikeBandit so I got one on order.
