cant remove needle screws in carb for adjustment
08/26/17 at 06:31:10

can you buy the entire rubber section ?  needle included?

We got new jets and in making our adjustment we cant unscrew the little plate holding the needle in

Or do I have to buy an entire carb?

The screws are WAY down in the rubber cone and are stripped Smiley

I don't want to tear up that needle section

It appears I can drill them out from the bottom

Thanks.

The screws can be really tight, and if you try to use a Phillips screwdriver on them they are easy to strip - you need a proper JIS screwdriver, and even then it is somewhat of a gamble if you don't have an impact driver.

You can drill the heads off, then the threaded portion normally screws out easily....and you can use new hex head (allen) screws so that you never have the same problem again.

And yes.......you can buy the entire assembly - if you are handy with a checkbook or credit card, as it is very, very expensive.

A proper JIS driver will help, as will a small 1/4"-drive impact driver.

Harbor Freight USED TO sell a hand held impact that came with a long skinny screwdriver tip that was surely designed for just that task.
I'm pretty sure I was gonna screw that up without that setup.
You might get lucky, go hunting.

As dave said, those parts add up.  The slide is $125.  The good news is that you'll qualify for free shipping! Wink

Frustration and determination are ingredients for suffering.
Go slow, get good light, and Know that screwdriver Fits.
Lightly tapping on it can't hurt.
Someone holding the part, and both hands on the tool.
A hand held impact is what saved me.
If you don't have one, they are a Lot Less than screwing up your carburetor.
You Can build your own tip.
Get a screwdriver that fits , and cut it off or remove the handle.
Grind a slot in a screwdriver tip that fits the impact and brazen it in. If you are good enough you can flat spot the sides of the screwdriver tip, fit it into the slot so it won't turn, then solder would hold it.
You can haul the part to someone.
Twenty bucks would beat a screwup.

If you already messed the screws up just dremel a slot into the head and unscrew them with a flat head

If you already broke the heads off then just grab them with a vise grip once you get all the heads off

That would be a good trick to see......those screw heads are way down inside the bottom of the slide!
