There is a difference between "bikers" and "motorcyclists".
--------------------------

A really good, Harley (Ultra Classic) riding friend of mine once said to me, "I think I've turned into a biker."  I asked why.  "Well, my girlfriend is 10 yrs younger than me and I don't have a checkbook anymore."

I told him he was a hippy, a biker or maybe a little bit of both.  He agreed.  Smiley

LOL  He was 29 when he got his first Ultra Classic and I know he was on one of those when he met his now wife so it was legal.  Smiley

Splain it Gary , I want to hear this one Grin

This is just my opinion gleamed from observations. A biker is someone that sees his/her motorcycle as an accessory to a life style or image.

A motorcyclist is someone that enjoys motorcycles first, and the image or life style is something that evolves from that enjoyment.

Bikers like bikes that make noise (to feed the image), where as a motorcyclist chooses a bike for it's performance or reliability or some other technical aspect.

Bikers can be found at bars (with their bikes...something I'll never understand), where as a motorcyclist may be seen at a track day, or MSF course or something similar...to improve skills.

And you can find either of these types of riders on any brand bike...it's not brand or type (cruiser/tourer/sportbike/dual-sport/etc) specific.

Next we'll talk about squids and hipsters Smiley

Well put Gary ! And no mention of v twins , Harley's , knuckle draggers, meatheads as not to be stereotypical. Maybe there is a difference.
Now on with squids & hipsters. You go first!

Squids and hipsters, if I may:

Hipsters are what we are... My evidence, we ride around on Suzuki s40's, a bike that is underpowered compared to modern bikes, not exceptionally comfortable and lacks the generally accepted cool factor of a big V-Twin. If a hipster is someone who rejects the mainstream for fashions and ideas that are often dated then, so sorry, this forum is basically portland.

I know people use the term as an insult a lot, but screw it. I like how vinyl sounds, I like how my big thumper feels and I'll happily travel for great street food. If that makes me wrong, I don't wanna be right.

SQUIDS are just excitable young motorcyclists who haven't seen anyone die yet. My last bike was... very fast. My s40 is much more fun. A lot of people wouldn't be caught dead on something that can't even do 90mph without modding... SQUIDs

In my last conversation with a squid....I commented that my Savage Cafe' bike was pretty quick up to about 80mph and then the big single started to run out of steam - His response was that he can get to 80mph in 2nd gear....and still has 4 more to go!

I avoided the Fast bikes. I Know my level of idiocy. I'd get over my head and dead. Or worse. I shudder when I think about Christopher Reeves.

I don't even own a tie let alone a suit. I don't think there are many here that are hipsters and hopefully none are squids. Had a squid pass me on the way home from work, shorts & a tee , helmet & gloves , ten miles up the road there he is sitting next to the fast lane k rail puking , guess he saw what I saw skin & flesh missing from knee to ankle I could see bones on the side of his knee ,made me feel ill just looking at it and chill up my spine reminding me don't be a 🐙. The R1 he was riding was nothing but trash now. When will they learn , cause that's one tough lesson !

Being able to do that on a 250 dirt bike would please me. I wish that video was longer.
