Roadside assistance insurance

Just a thought about Roadside assistance insurance and thought some of you might be interested.  I have no claim in this just passing along my ideas for me.

I left the BMW world about a year ago, but still retain my membership in the BMW Motorcycle Owners Association.  One reason is to keep in touch with some of the people I have befriended over the years.  But the main reason is because they offer a Roadside Assistance program that is hard to beat.

Without having to join the BMWMOA anyone can buy the assistance program for $39.00 a year that includes free 100 mile tow in case of breakdown.  If you are like me, I like to take short trips that take me roughly 75 to 100 miles away from home so I would be covered to have the bike bought home if I did have a break down.

The second choice is a Platinum membership which includes the above, plus road hazard tire free replacement up to $250 per tire (I think) and lots of other trip help - fuel, roadside tire repair, accident help, motels, if needed, etc.  This version costs $79.00 per year.

For me, it is worth the peace of mind.  I just thought some of you may be interested as well.

Thanks for the tip!

Reminds me that I think my regular insurance (I have full coverage on both bikes via Progre$$ive) has some sort of roadside assistance built in.  I should probably look that up and know what I am paying for  Shocked

The https://www.americanmotorcyclist.com also offers roadside assistance to its members. You get the basic with your normal AMA membership and it works for up to 5 vehicles in your household.

I've had a AAA "Triple A" membership for 17 years since I have a couple of vintage cars and my regular drivers are older, '84 Dodge D100 & 2000 Dodge Neon.

Standard package covers 50 miles free towing, Premium pkg 100. The memberships offer more than just Roadside Assistance so other benefits apply. I went with the Premium so I could cruise to most local events up to 100 miles away,  the cost was $89/yr.

I bought a 25' RV last year year and added RV RA. When I bought my '04 Savage this spring, I added MC RA, total now is $165/yr. I don't  know the breakdown on how much the RV and MC added to the $89 Prem pkg but I'm sure the RV was most of the $76 increase.

I've used the RA 6-7 times, never had to wait more than 1 hour. The last time was when a right rear drum brake retaining spring broke on my 2000 Neon. The spring remains spun around and wedged against the shoes which peeled off the lining. AAA was there in 45 minutes, towed me 30 miles, I tipped the driver a Twenty.

My GF has RA thru her auto insurance. I think she pays $30/yr. She has used it 2 times, both times she had some kind of co-pay. It doesn't sound like a very good deal to me but she doesn't want to pay for Std AAA which is around $70/yr.
