Torqued too much on Head Replacement
06/10/17 at 16:05:09

So I torqued a bit too much on one of the bolts when I was reassembling the engine head while replacing the plug cap. The bolt snapped in half, leaving the other half in the hole. My question, how important is the L55 bolt of the image below? Can I live without it as long as I seal up the screw hole? Or should I get a replacement bolt and redo the sealing process?

L55 has a * next to it which means it has a sealing washer on it.
This means there's oil pressure in there and it'll leak.

This one also goes thru the rocker shaft.

I'd rather replace it.

Fix it right while the engine is out
You will regret it it if you don't

Thanks. I figured that was going to be the answer, but I appreciate the affirmation.  Where can I order a replacement bolt?

I would suggest never torqueing small bolts on the bike ,just screw in until they stop and turn 1/8 0r 1/4 turn more , if they leak ,just tighten slightly more ,dealing with a tiny leak is much better than dealing with a snapped off bolt.

I have torque wrenches. But they aren't needed or desired on small stuff like that. As long as the sealer is thin and even you won't be trying to crush it flat. A hand is enough, with a  short 1/4" ratchet, using thumb and fingers. And I'm not a big stout guy,
And yeah, it's Bunches easier to go back and snug one than break one.
