I'm more concerned with tappet and cam wear. I run Rotella, but the non synthetic 15w40. I read here in the forum to add the additive to even that, but I want to be sure the Eastwood type is wet clutch safePapa Bear

Hello folks, all the non responses are interesting...BUT... no one answered the simple question. I went and read the tech section...and great. It tells me ...sure a 1987 bike needs the additive.. BUT BUT BUT...it hasnt been updated, no one followed through...for example...does a bike after 1987 need it...YES or NO...???
I think he was wanting to simply hear from people...who have used some product...??? and the many different ones.... and even after all the reading... my question still isnt answered...
I have a 2015 S 40...does it need the additive as well?????

wish sometimes things were a bit more simple on here...

Either is fine... Synth is better, but more expensive...
It's readily available at most US auto stores and WallMart...

If you have more money to burn... Amsoil, Klotz, Mobil One Racing, or V-Twin are also good

Use oils that are rated at least 40 on the second number...
and 10w or less in winter, if you are in cold country...
(5W-40 or 10W-40 for cold winter... 10W-40 or 20W-50 in hot summer)...
...or just 10W-40 year 'round if your climate is mild...

The simple truth can get so cluttered .....

I'm using Shell Rotella T (new designation is T4) and I do not plan on nor foresee any oil related issue on the horizon.
Rotella T is dirt cheap, darn good and readily available - that's all I "NEED" Wink

I was concerned an engine oil additive that reduces wear, may cause my clutch to have issues. Now i can pursue one of the highly celebrated "versey"cam chain adjusters!

Eastwood oil additive is re-bottled ZDDPlus. I've been using it for the last 6 years in my older Mopars.

I once used any diesel oil without an additive until the zinc levels were also reduced in them. Now I use 6 qts of dino based Rotella with half of a 4 oz bottle of ZDDPlus. If I used conventional automotive oil that has less ZDDP than Rotella, I would use the whole 4 oz bottle.

I've have only put 110 miles on my 2004 Savage since I bought it. When the next oil change is due, I plan to use Rotella T-6 with about 1 oz of ZDDPlus. So this morning I sent an email to ZDDPlus to see if their product is compatible with jato oils.

Rotella by itself if most likely fine as long as they keep putting 1,200 ppm of ZDDP in it - we are trying to keep track of that and will let the forum members know once we discovered it has changed.

A few of us "overthinkers" bump the ZDDP level up to 1,400 ppm.

The ZDDP does not do anything good or bad to the clutch.....the only place it functions is in the high oil shear areas that occur at the cam lobes and the rocker arm faces.

The "bad" oils have friction modifiers that make the clutch slip, and low levels (600 - 800 ppm) of ZDDP that allows the cam and rockers to wear out prematurely.
