CDI unit

I recently bought a job lot of LS650 spares that included x 2 CDI units
The seller said they were 4 speed 'black boxes' Surely the CDI's would'nt be different for 4/5 speed engines? - or am I missing something?

Check the part number against one of the online Suzuki parts houses

Well yes they are different.
The connector is different and the timing is different.
But, as long as you have the matching year rotor you can use them if you figure out how to convert the connector.

Thanks for the info - I'll check the part number and Yes! I have a complete bottom end from a 4 speed inc rotor and If I have to I'm sure I can sort out a connector - The reason I posted the question is that on the 'chopped' bike I bought the CDI is hanging free behind the right hand chrome panel. When I bought the bike it would only make a 'click' when the starter was pressed (solenoid) - the previous owner lightly tapped the chrome panel and it started ok! I guess I am thinking of a worse case scenario when it might just be a dodgy connector/connection to the CDI. The fault has only happened to me twice now and a light tap on the panel does the trick - this doesn't inspire confidence though
