Lancer, are you saying the 230 is stock, just in the wrong place?

Lancer , nice catch ! I guess none of us has ever bothered to look at what size the jets were under the diaphragm.

Would there be any reason to change the jets under the diaphragm?

Does any one actually know what the above mentioned jets do?

There is no reason to change the jets under the diaphragm....you can do any adjustment you need with the jets in the float bowl.

The jets up top are the air jets....they control the amount of air that mixes with the fuel that goes through the pilot jet, the choke and the TEV.

Well, I had the local bike shop order me a 155 and picked it up. Pulled the carb and popped it in. I had hesitated before to pull the diaphragm. It felt like I'd tear it. But on popping by the top off this time the funny integrated o-ring thingy unseated itself and looked robust enough to peel out. The 2 jets in there were a 145 and a 45. Not sure what that means!

Was just getting ready to try and fire her up when plans changed. Am now sitting in a hospital possibly about to see our 3rd child born! Hopefully it's false labor and they send us home.

How rude, tell her to hold it, you're working on a mystery.   Grin

155 is probably too big, 150, but I don't know what else you got.

What that most likely means....and Lancer was the one who "supposed it"....somebody goofed and switched the #230 which is supposed to be on the top.......with the #145 main jet which is supposed to be on the bottom.

Put the #230 up to where it belongs......when you get done with your childbirth chores.

Yes 230 in the top, and I'd go with the 155 for the main (may be a little to big, but the 145 will be way to small because of your cone filter and straight pipe). You may need to do the spacer mod. on the needle jet if you have surging at steady speeds.

Ok! so no baby for a bit (we hope).

I should have read the whole thread over again before popping n the 155. I pulled the carb out again and put that 230 jet in where it belongs (on top, where the 145 was hiding). Got things back together and took it for a spin. Am excited to think this will help with the plug fouling and milage issues. Mostly excited about being able to start it reliably (clean plug).

While I was mystified why someone would put so weird a main jet in, I get how they could get mixed up if not careful or aware.

Going to leave the 155 in for now and see how it does. Has to be better than the 230 right? Happy to be in the right ball park for that.

Will muck about with the pilot setting next.

Thanks, all of you, for your advice. Think we're ready for some summer! When I was done I caught her looking at me through an old mirror I need to put away...

Think she winked too.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but there's a brass washer that goes in with the main jet ... it's important.
