1" grips on 7/8" Ducati bars?
04/06/17 at 13:13:15

I apologize that this isn't a LS650 related question but my hands are killing me. I got a new bike (Ducati) and I'm finding the smaller size handlebars + grips to be torture on my poor abused old mitts.
I searched google and could not find any grips for the 7/8" bars that are as big as the 1" bars grips on my Thumpy.
Do they not make anything?

If not I guess I need to perform some more back-alley engineering. suggestions welcome.

I read someone used many wrappings of grip tape for skateboards and such to build up the bars to fit 1" grips.
Any other ideas?

Any gel-filled grip will help cut down on vibration. A set of Pro Taper bars would help as well.

look for iso grips for 7/8" or sports bike

The iso grips are huge... so they'll make the 7/8" feel like 1"

plus take out all the vibes.

vibration isn't a problem. The ducati engine hardly makes any. It's that I probably have carpal tunnel though I've never had it checked by a doc.
The smaller size of the grip is a problem in that it aggravates the condition quite badly.
I don't get this with the 1" grips on my LS650. It's a size issue...

I'll look up the iso grips.

theremust be some sort of nylon tube in 7/8 id, 1" od available you could bulk it up with. or some of those oversized biltwell or Posh grips maybe?
how good is the smoothness of that engine? mine feels like an electric bike after swapping over from the cabbage.

The 1-5/8″ outside diameter sounds promising!

Yep, there's a cheap knock off too that you could try before getting the good stuff.

Here's a cheap, easy, effective, ugly solution that works great on skinny, slippery Jap dirt bike grips:
https://www.amazon.com/Sportouring-Handlebar-Grip-Puppies-Grips/dp/B00CP9ADD8
I had them on a XT225 for years. Skinny plastic no-grip grips, and a too-tight throttle spring left me with wrist pain, because I rode on the road mostly, not on trails. Not so much up and down on the throttle. Added Grip Puppies, pain went away.

Go to Amazon,  search for "gran turismo grips".... $12.99, free shipping.

Kind of a retro look grip. I had them on my Honda CB350 twin and they were easier to grip than the OEM "waffle" grips and deadened out some of the high-frequency vibration at highway speeds.

Not happy with the grips I ordered. Not large enough around. Sending back...
Anybody use these ones?
