Soc,that warning is placed on stock mufflers by law (the feds make the bike companies do it,the Dyna will have it too) ,but state inspection laws don't usually even govern exhaust systems.(but you should check to see if your state does)you should be OK unless you're pipes are to noisy ,(ticket time). I would go with a Dyna muffler ,they are relatively cheap, sound better,but are only a bit louder,and we can advise on jetting just by asking your elevation above sea level. between the Dyna and the rejettimg the bike it will run surprising better as many on this site will agree ,including me! A custom pipe will cost more an may not be the right size or have the correct back pressure to be easy to tune the carb to.If you what to go after market ,I'd go with a known manufacturer ,who already has a muffler for your bike.The chances of you coming up with a design and your friend building it right are rather slight ,and the bike may never run well.
