I used to think I was a regular guy ~
04/04/17 at 10:30:44

I'm almost 75 yrs old ....
I used to think I was just a regular guy, but . . . I was born white, which now, whether I like it or not, makes me a racist.

I am a fiscal and moral conservative, which by today's standards, makes me a fascist.

I am heterosexual, which according to gay folks, now makes me a homophobic.

I am a Christian, which now labels me as an infidel.

I am older than 70, which makes me a useless old man.

I think and I reason, therefore I doubt much that the main stream media tells me, which must make me a reactionary.

I am proud of my heritage and our inclusive culture, which makes me a xenophobe.

I value my safety and that of my family and I appreciate the police and the legal system, which makes me a right-wing extremist.

I believe in hard work, fair play, and fair compensation according to each individual's merits, which today makes me an anti-socialist.

I believe in the defence and protection of my country for and by all citizens, which now makes me a militant.

Please help me come to terms with the new me . . . Because I'm just not sure who I am anymore!

I would like to thank all my friends for sticking with me through these abrupt, new found changes in my life and my thinking!

I just can't imagine or understand what's happened to me so quickly!

Funny . . . it's all just taken place over the last 7 or 8 years! As if all this crap wasn't enough to deal with, I'm now afraid to go into either restroom!

Sorry Papa, but you're wrong on all counts.  You are a regular guy -

Just because you're white does not make you a racist.  If you say and do racist things, THEN you're a racist.

It's great that you're a fiscal and moral conservative - but if you're intolerant of anyone who's not, THEN you're a fascist.

Being a heterosexual does not make you a homophobe.  Saying homophobic things and treating homosexuals as a lessor person - THAT makes you homophobic.

Being a Christian does not make you an infidel.  Being intolerant of other religions - THAT makes you an infidel.

Age is just a number - if you think you're old - THAT makes you old.

Thinking and reason is needed more in this country - that and tolerance.  You SHOULD be reactionary.

You can be proud of your heritage and culture.  But if you live in this country and don't accept that diversity is what made us what we are - then THAT makes you a xenophobe.

Valuing your safety and the police is the farthest thing from being a right wing extremist.  If you think you're above the law and that anyone who opposes you for any reason should be shot or imprisoned - THAT would make you a right wing extremist.

Good for you for your work ethic.  That doesn't make you an anti-socialist.  If you think that everyone who needs a helping hand up is guilty of being lazy - or somehow doesn't deserve help - THAT would make you (if not anti-socialist) an apathetic person.

There's nothing wrong with supporting our troops and protecting our country.  But if you think brute force is the only way to peace - THAT makes you a militant.

I could make the exact same statements from the liberal side of the story.

I used to think I was just a regular guy, but . . . I was born white, and I support things like a woman's right to choose and peaceful demonstrations, which now, whether I like it or not, makes me a pinko commie baby killer.

I am a fiscal and moral liberal, which by today's standards, makes me a threat to the American way of life.

I am heterosexual that supports gay marriage, which according to straight folks, now makes me a sinner and pervert.

I am agnostic, which now labels me as an infidel.

See the point?

You ARE a regular guy.  But things like racism and bigotry are still a huge issue today.  That, and the MSM - be it right or left leaning - sells ad revenue by fear and passing judgement.  If you consider yourself a conservative and think that every single liberal out there is a threat to the country - then you might have deal with that sooner than later.  This Country is not black & white (pun kind of intended).  We are a melting pot of not only races - but ideals and cultures.

I love my country.  I'm honored to be here.  I consider myself lucky to have been born here.  I'm sure you feel the same.

I guess the end point is - if you really feel that you've missed something, maybe you have.  Maybe get outside your comfort zone.  Experience something new.  Focus on what you'll leave behind.

Then again, I'm just an idiot liberal... what do I know....LOL

Your, ‘Quote’ of your whole post, is, after this,  (Because it is long)

Some of the things, after you said:
“… I could make the exact same statements from the liberal side of the story….”
They are Not exact,  just, your   Spin.

So let me ask,  what is your,  ’Spin’.

Where someone, is buying food, at a  grocery store,
(Which now have a  moving ‘belt’, to take items to a cashier)
And they lay down a  Package of,  ‘Bacon’, on the belt.
Then hear  Screams,
turns and sees someone in a full burka,
Yelling in a  un known language,  pointing a  finger, Screaming and yelling more, and the person, that put the package of  ‘Bacon’, on the Belt, realizes, (though not knowing the language), what ’she’ is saying.
Says:   “I  do not tell you what to eat, do Not  tell ME  what to eat”.

Now, that person  is,  ‘Labeled a,  …, …, …, …, etc.
What did that person do,
That the,  “LABEL”, of that person,
SUDDENLY,  Changed?

Ben Franklin once said: "If you give up a freedom, for the sake of security, you will have neither".
Which is More TRUE, today, than yesterday.('06, S-40, Stock) well, mostly .
