I've been seeing it like that for decades. The crap( and urine  ) called art is a sad statement on society. The mental gymnastics required to look at a canvas someone has flicked and splattered with paint, creating a random splash of color and pointing at it and Ooohing and Ahhhing and declaring how it moves you and how much you wish you were so talented is just disgusting.
What a bold statement, a white canvas. I'm impressed.

I wrote a paper about this for Art Appreciation.
The teacher did not care for my attitude regarding "contemporary art".

I was originally at the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford for a paper on columns or some nuts and the extra credit was about contemporary art.

I saw three exhibits that really stuck out:
One was an older barber's chair covered with baby food jars of nails and an old 7" CRT television. The chair was just... ornamented with crap. The artist wrote that it described his transition from boyhood into manhood.
It looked like he covered the chair in glue and rolled it through the dump.

The next was odd bits of 2x4 scrap ends. The artist painted one side and cut them. Where ever they landed, however they landed, that became the piece.

The last was at the Museum of Modern Art in New Britain. It was an empty frame with spot lights on it. I jokingly said "They must not have set this one up yet."
A curator overheard me and said the artist intended to capture light at different times during the day.

You  BET !

The Point is, the,  'ART', and   Huge  Gobs  of  Taxpayers  Money,  GIVEN, to PBS  & Like,   for,  Propaganda.
Looks like it will  Stop/Slow down.

Gee, would  LOVE, to build me a, 'Rat'  Bike,
If the  Government  PAID   ME  !!!!!!!!

Hay, just had a  Idea,  I could call it, 'ART'.

Grin  Grin  Grin  Grin  Grin  Grin  Grin  Grin  Grin  Grin

Their are people like, Pisacco, and Janiek, who did  paintings, of a surrealistic  Nature.
YET, They were skillful Artists, who did  Numinous, paintings, that were, more, 'normal'.  And their, 'unusual', ones, were just part of their career.

Yet the, 'unusual' ones, get the  BIG   Bucks.

So  the  Scammers,  (Not Knowing the first thing about Art),  decided they were going to get the  BIG  Bucks also.

They,  STARTED,  'throwing paint', on a canvas. Dressing, Looking, Acting,  'strange'.
To, 'fool',  others, (who also did not know), yet believe the 'act',   and  Paid.

OH, and got,   FREE    MONEY,  from the government as well !!!!!

Art is like kitchens, what is appealing last for  a decade or so.  Should government spend money on art? I say yes even though it often makes me close my eyes.  Hopefully at some point it will be replaced with something more palatable.  It is a quality of life thing, I think it makes life more enjoyable.  Tax money, hell, we support every fricken thing under the sun, and if you include the crap causes we allow people to reduce their tax portions by through deductions, I do mean every crap course.
If anyone is willing to simply say, all income is equally taxable and cost of acquiring income not relevant and the tax rates set based on the revised probable tax incomes, I'll listen. 'Till then, pfffft. Grin

I call it tax post card.  All income.  Multiplied by applicable tax rate based on sum of incomes.  Tax  Tax withheld and prepaid tax payments.
Sum you owe, or sum overpaid.  But back to art, it has been a difficult few decades for those of us with normal untrained senses of aesthetics. Wink

There are REAL works of art, that capture a moment in time, that were painted by amateurs, that don't look like a pile of garbage on an old chair.

... and guns, too.

Funding for the NEA is about $150 million per year.
Trump's plane tickets will cost more than that.
We have spent $400 BILLION on the F35...(and it don't like inclement weather)... Undecided

Luckily,.. if we don't buy an i-phone, we can pay for our own health care... with the Republican plan...
So,.. $600 per year should it... Roll Eyes
