Title: Art? Post by MShipley on 03/23/17 at 10:19:16 very interesting, especially with all the debate about stopping public funding...... https://www.prageru.com/courses/history/why-modern-art-so-bad# |
Title: Re: Art? Post by justin_o_guy2 on 03/23/17 at 10:52:45 I've been seeing it like that for decades. The crap( and urine ) called art is a sad statement on society. The mental gymnastics required to look at a canvas someone has flicked and splattered with paint, creating a random splash of color and pointing at it and Ooohing and Ahhhing and declaring how it moves you and how much you wish you were so talented is just disgusting. What a bold statement, a white canvas. I'm impressed. |
Title: Re: Art? Post by Paraquat on 03/23/17 at 11:14:05 I wrote a paper about this for Art Appreciation. The teacher did not care for my attitude regarding "contemporary art". I was originally at the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford for a paper on columns or some nuts and the extra credit was about contemporary art. I saw three exhibits that really stuck out: One was an older barber's chair covered with baby food jars of nails and an old 7" CRT television. The chair was just... ornamented with crap. The artist wrote that it described his transition from boyhood into manhood. It looked like he covered the chair in glue and rolled it through the dump. The next was odd bits of 2x4 scrap ends. The artist painted one side and cut them. Where ever they landed, however they landed, that became the piece. The last was at the Museum of Modern Art in New Britain. It was an empty frame with spot lights on it. I jokingly said "They must not have set this one up yet." A curator overheard me and said the artist intended to capture light at different times during the day. http://https://static01.nyt.com/images/2015/02/01/nyregion/01ARTSCT4/01ARTSCT4-blog427.jpg --Steve |

You BET ! The Point is, the, 'ART', and Huge Gobs of Taxpayers Money, GIVEN, to PBS & Like, for, Propaganda. Looks like it will Stop/Slow down. Gee, would LOVE, to build me a, 'Rat' Bike, If the Government PAID ME !!!!!!!! Hay, just had a Idea, I could call it, 'ART'. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Their are people like, Pisacco, and Janiek, who did paintings, of a surrealistic Nature. YET, They were skillful Artists, who did Numinous, paintings, that were, more, 'normal'. And their, 'unusual', ones, were just part of their career. Yet the, 'unusual' ones, get the BIG Bucks. So the Scammers, (Not Knowing the first thing about Art), decided they were going to get the BIG Bucks also. They, STARTED, 'throwing paint', on a canvas. Dressing, Looking, Acting, 'strange'. To, 'fool', others, (who also did not know), yet believe the 'act', and Paid. OH, and got, FREE MONEY, from the government as well !!!!! |

Title: Re: Art? Post by Trippah on 03/24/17 at 13:11:04 Art is like kitchens, what is appealing last for a decade or so. Should government spend money on art? I say yes even though it often makes me close my eyes. Hopefully at some point it will be replaced with something more palatable. It is a quality of life thing, I think it makes life more enjoyable. Tax money, hell, we support every fricken thing under the sun, and if you include the crap causes we allow people to reduce their tax portions by through deductions, I do mean every crap course. If anyone is willing to simply say, all income is equally taxable and cost of acquiring income not relevant and the tax rates set based on the revised probable tax incomes, I'll listen. 'Till then, pfffft. ;D |
Title: Re: Art? Post by Trippah on 03/24/17 at 13:14:08 I call it tax post card. All income. Multiplied by applicable tax rate based on sum of incomes. Tax Tax withheld and prepaid tax payments. Sum you owe, or sum overpaid. But back to art, it has been a difficult few decades for those of us with normal untrained senses of aesthetics. ;) |

Title: Re: Art? Post by Serowbot on 03/24/17 at 14:41:47 Funding for the NEA is about $150 million per year. Trump's plane tickets will cost more than that. We have spent $400 BILLION on the F35...(and it don't like inclement weather)... :-/ Luckily,.. if we don't buy an i-phone, we can pay for our own health care... with the Republican plan... So,.. $600 per year should it... ::) |
Title: Re: Art? Post by justin_o_guy2 on 03/24/17 at 15:38:40 Is that how it works,? Because something else is an expenditure you don't like America should continue pissing money in a hole? |

Bot, perhaps you need to be clearer. From your statement, it sure looks like you said; If the Government does NOT, give Free, i-phones, to the, ' Oh, the, 'poor', people. They ONLY Need 600.00 a Year ? (50.00 a Month ?) To pay their H.C. premiums ? Perhaps you should read/Listen to this: https://www.prageru.com/courses/political-science/socialism-makes-people-selfish Socialism Makes People Selfish What if someone said: "You don't need that Gas Hog, Polluting, Huge Motorcycle. A 49 cc Scooter is ALL, YOU, Need" ! What would be your answer ? |
Title: Re: Art? Post by MShipley on 03/25/17 at 13:51:09 Why do we always get the arguments that defense (jets) cost more. It really is not about money, it is rather about responsibility. The Government's primary job is to defend the states. Now we can argue about the cost of defense if you want however there is no correlation that , because defese is expensive that it is therfore ok to take peoples money and give it to random art groups. :o It is not the role of government to take money from its citizens to randomly shore up intities that can not survive on their own. |

Title: Re: Art? Post by Trippah on 03/25/17 at 14:36:30 So in the defense of America, who will invade? Canada doesn't want to, they are too polite. Cuba? Bermuda? Oh- I know, Mexico. Except hey now are finding more jobs South of the Border so the flow is actually South across the border. Is that why we need a wall, to stop cheap labor from escaping? It is the job of the government to do things that are not immediately profitable (able to stand on their own)-It is the job of Business to try to be profitable.. |
Title: Re: Art? Post by justin_o_guy2 on 03/25/17 at 15:12:47 Explain what the goobs are actually supposed to do. And it's not about supporting what can't survive in the market. |

America, who will invade? The USA Defense Budget, is more than, China, Saudi Arabia, Russia, United Kingdom, India, France, and Japan, combined. http://www.pgpf.org/chart-archive/0184_ally_defense_spending http://www.pgpf.org/chart-archive/0053_defense-comparison So Stop the USA, from DEFENDING, all SORTS of others. (Because they don’t have to. We do it for them) Then, spend that money on a sub-standard, Socialistic, “”” free “””, HC. Or, Stop the USA, from, GIVING, money to every ‘banana republic’, ( With their hand out) Then, spend that money on a sub-standard, Socialistic, “”” free “””, HC. Ya want it all? The Cryer’s, Snowflakes, Fairy Dust Sprinklers, will say: ‘Isolationism’, if we stop giving money to ALL the countries, with their hand out. Ya want it all? The Cryer’s, Snowflakes, Fairy Dust Sprinklers, will say: “Oh We Have to Defend those poor people in …… Land” Ya want it all ? Then pay 40-50% of your wages, in Taxes ! Now, what’s gonna happen ??????? more jobs South of the Border so the flow is actually South across the border. Really ??????? Got something to back up that statement? It is the job of Business to try to be profitable.. Yes it IS. That's why, no, Tax Dollars, to the, 'Fairy Duct Sprinklers', with their Hand out, saying, Gimme, Gimme, Gimme, because it is ART ! |
Title: Re: Art? Post by justin_o_guy2 on 03/26/17 at 10:26:58 It's funny to me that the lefties believe it is for cheap labor that the border remains open, And, Apparently, in Spite of dems being smarter and better educated, the cheap labor Fuels the greeeedy bubs businesses,,, So, since the dems Oppose the bubs, WHY wouldn't dems close the border? And, how many unemployed and I mean unemployed for so long that they are no longer considered as part of the labor market, how many of those people are needed to have a pool of cheap labor? And that bullshift about Americans won't do the work? Horsepuckee,, offer someone who is losing everything a chance to earn something.. see what happens. So, why haven't dems closed the border? How many unemployed people are required to create a Cheap Labor ? |
