STEAMPUNK SAVAGE
03/01/17 at 00:33:35

I've owned the Dyna for almost a year now and she's the bike I've been riding most since March 2016.

Still, try as I might, I simply cannt get myself to sell the Savage.
I'm just too fond of her (him?)

Then an idea struck ! Steampunk Savage !

The engine is the right kind, big bore heavy doty wet sump single.

What else should I need ?
Roll Eyes
- Old "1930's" style fuel tank
- Proper instrumentation
- Springer tractor seat
- Springer fork ? No way I can find a girder front end...
- Front drum brake
- old school headlight
- 1930's style handlebars and controls...
- 1930's style tires
- WLA/Knucklehead-style front and rear fenders.

To read "Savage" instead of "Indian"... and with a "proper" engine !

OK what else ?  Cool

A LEATHER HELMET ! AND GOGGLES !!  AND A HANDLEBAR MOUSTACHE !!! Cheesy

... and NO manbun...!  Grin

Most of the things you have suggested are doable, thank god or something you can't readily get a girder fork, if you want one of those buy a pre war 2 bike. With your own skills and research on this site, you could do  the drum brake and the tyres from info on here. If you don't like the cheap rev counters and speedos many here fit, there are real vintage type reproductions available in the US and UK. You might be better off with a good repro leather seat, rather than something off a tractor. Headlight might come from a vintage swap meet or a US tractor supply house. I'm sure it would be an interesting project.

Because without brass and copper,it ain't steam, punk...  Wink
And Yes that would be a way cool build.
A dual leading shoe drum and a springer front end , I've always liked the looks of a  springer.

I went looking for that board track racer and found this. Interesting bikes, one real, no kidding little boy, bandaged, bloodied and on his bike, the picture I wanted to post is a bike in a right turn, front tire off the ground a few inches and smoke boiling off the rear. I wonder what a picture two seconds later would have shown.

My issue with most of the replica board track racers.....or steampunk stuff - is that most the mutations are not anything that could actually be ridden....maybe you could ride it across a parking lot if you had to.

There was one fellow on this forum that did an excellent job of making the Savage a vintage looking bike that was fully functional.  You still wouldn't want to take a long trip on this bike - but it looks comfortable enough for local rides.

If it can cruise at a steady 55-60mph it can go around the world and back.

Just stay off the superhighways...
