This gauge can't work....right!?

Just happened on this gauge while wasting time at work searching for stuff on eBay. Claims to be a tach and fuel gauge that fits the Savage. I would like a tach and a fuel gauge would be great but I cant see how the fuel gauge would be able to operate accurately...unless the tank has some unused sensor in there that I am not aware of!??

I would love a fuel gauge as well, but I think that person is in some sort of gray area with respect to compatibility. I think that they claim it is compatible with the s40 because part of it is, the tachometer part. It appears to be misleading and frankly shady, but I'm sure he will get a few sales out of it. I may be wrong but that is my thinking

Reply #2 - 01/11/17 at 07:08:51 Unless it comes with a resistive or capacitance fuel sender (that you would have to calibrate), there is no means for getting fuel quantity information to that indicator.

Clueless seller....the tach could work with the Savage - but the fuel gauge will not.

Some models of the Maurader had a fuel level gauge....and this eBay item could work with those fuel tanks and sending units.

On a related topic, if someone wants to invest a ton of money for little to no return, one could design a wireless capacitance sending unit, integrated into the fuel cap. I worked on such a program for an experimental aircraft and the technology worked perfectly.

I think that we already have a primitive fuel gauge, petcock in the on position =fuel not low, petcock in reserve position = fuel low LOL

Are you talking about the golden gate bridge, I always wanted a bridge how much? Grin

You can report him to eBay but really I see it as buyer beware, technically it is partially compatible with your bike and fully compatible with others listed, shady yes, but there is really nothing you can do but research before you buy, which you obviously did.

Anyone goofy enough to think strapping a gas gauge on the handlebars and not stop long enough to ask themselves

Now, what am I gonna plug it into?
is probably smart enough to know they couldn't connect the tach. I can't picture anyone buying it actually expecting it to somehow just Know how much gas is in the tank.
I guess you could get a tiny twelve volt battery and walk around with the gauge and hold it close to different cars and see how much gas is in their tank.
