Stupid question of the day.....
12/29/16 at 05:53:06

I bought a Dyna muffler on line. If I can see straight through the muffler that is because the baffles have been removed? Yes! or No!

It is way louder than I anticipated......

Yes!

You can rebaffle it by driving a freeze plug down to the midpoint of the tube. As long as the inner walls aren't rusted out.

A 1-1/4" freeze plug from the Auto Parts store will fit.

You need to drive it from the inlet side, and move it doewnto the position between the front/back holes in the side of the tube.  From what I remember, there may not be an equal number of holes on each side - but there will be a gap where the original bulkhead was located (and most likely some broken spot welds are visible).

Well it did not work for this muffler....from the inlet there is a 6" space with no holes, this section is about 1 3/4 " , this opens to the rest of the unit that is over 2" diameter all the way to the end.........ohhh well.........anyone got a good Dyna muffler?

It does but it is a 64941-94.....I see a few on ebay that say they are 64941-01 ( this is the number listed in the Tech section as the one to get) but I am not sure they are off a Dyna or not. Will any 64941-01 work as long as the baffles are not cut out?

I don't believe anyone has ever made a list of Harley muffler part numbers and what they mean.

This is the most comprehensive thread we have on the Harley Mufflers.

the last 2 digits refer to the 1st year the part was made.
so an 01 has a change for some reason from the 94

So I picked up a new unit. Not a shorty but I think it looks great and sounds awesome. Wasser supposedly off a Sports terrie but had a rail mount. Bolted right up , even got both bolts into the rail. Love it. Thanks for all the info.
