A battery that is weak (or a less than ideal ground wire, etc.) can cause the light to go out....or dim.....when the starter is stealing all the amperage the battery can provide.
If the bike starts immediately after the battery is boosted - but then has problems 3 days later....that would indicate the battery is not holding a full charge.
How old is the battery?
