I've been running on repaired clutch cable for over a month. I saw a strand had let go, so, I installed the new one. I'm convinced that the OEM cable died because it wasn't seated in the pocket milled in the lever. The bushing was a mess from the uneven forces pushing on it. The slug the cable is in is supposed to be pulled on evenly, else it put unfriendly pressures on the cable, and it get butthurt and let go.. So, since Nothing is holding the slug Up in the pocket in the lever, I straightened and cleaned up a small lockwasher and sliced a groove in the hole in the lever with a badass XActo, added Devcon Stupidglue, popped the washer in place and Violins ,, I can watch the slug rotate inside the bushing and everything is straight and square. I'm gonna be watching the cable, but I don't think it's gonna be a problem.
