Dyna muffler install with ryca adaptor trouble

So I had a friend with some mechanical experience help me install my dyna muffler. I ordered the ryca adaptor and with trial and error we managed to get the adaptor on to both ends, but we couldn't get to muffler side to go on all the way in, even after knocking it with a hammer. After putting on sealant paste and screwing on the clamps, I thought we were done. However, after starting it up we noticed that the clamp didn't fully cover the space/holes between the adaptor and muffler and felt exhaust coming out although it sounded amazing

(pictures attached). Should I replace it with a wider T-clamp? He suggested I put on sealent paste and fiberglass wrap, and then clamp it. What are you thoughts?

Harley clamps are cheap and they can be tightened. Kenny G

Posts: 3767 Tennessee Gender:	Re: Dyna muffler install with ryca adaptor trouble Reply #2 - 11/14/16 at 18:48:54 I wrapped my muffler end under the clamp in aluminum foil and high temp silicone to block the exposed holes. 3 or 4 wraps a few inches wide ought to do it. Just make sure to "glue" it down with the silicone. It hasn't blown out or disintegrated in 2 years.

DON'T do what I did and use HVAC foil tape. What happens as soon as it get hot is melt the glue and it burns and stinks and creates a mess. It was a good idea, until it got hot. I actually cranked it up before installing the rear muffler bolts and as soon as it got hot and slippery, I goosed the throttle and sent my muffler shooting off of the bike like a rocket.

Lesson learned!

Stew, I did the same thing with my muffler except it was at 40 mph. I rigged my mount badly the first time I put the Dyna on. I was in a hurry to ride and didn't properly mount the bolt to hold the muffler to the frame. It shot off the bike and landed across the street. Luckily it was in front of a house of a guy with a '57 Harley. He had a nice shop behind his house and was really helpful.

I just installed my RYCA adapter this afternoon. Half an hour with a grinder let me slide it in past the slot holes. Forgot to use muffler cement before hammering it on. Muffler cement WAS used on the other end, but I can't test the assembly until tomorrow. Cranked the clamp down tight, hope it works.
ps: the chrome clamp from RYCA is 10/10 for looks and strength. Drilled it out for a 3/8" bolt.

Thx for the suggestions and recommendations. I ordered the below parts and installed (see pictures). However, I was not able to cover both slits because I couldn't fully rotate the clamp due to the frame (thus you see the back side of the clamp below the heat shield). Its leaking a little air/exhaust from the bottom slit, so I'm thinking of grinding off the tip of the screw on the clamp so that I can fully rotate the clamp to cover both slits. What are your thoughts?
