Bought one (actually two... the second is on its way) of these cute little sintered brass filters. Really compact. Will fit in just about anywhere. I wonder if it has any application on a Savage. Huh

I know it's already got plastic screens both in the tank and in the carbs, and I've gathered that people here are wary of using filters due to flow restrictions. Just wondering what everybody thinks of this.

I bought them for that shadow. It's factory rated at 66 horsepower, and I have it jetted up, so I wonder if that tiny thing will be able to handle it. Undecided

The fellow at the auto parts shop liked and recommended it. He likes to sell them for atvs. I was thinking about using two: one behind each carb, but I'm wondering that if I use only one behind the pump, that will keep garbage from getting into the pump.

They kept getting a vapor lock because of the angle they were at. I think you will hear that this can also be an issue with the Savage and most folks will tell you it isn't worth it because of the screens already in the petcock. However, there are some that use them and have no issues either.

Find the specs on the pump.....

Is filter rated for a FUEL pump pressure?

Is it strictly gravity fed fuel only?

If you stick a non-pump filter on a pump system, your carb problem will double, it will blow the little screen right into your carb, or suck it into the pump, what ever side you put it on.

Cheap is ok, as long as you find the specs... DON'T GUESS...

That guy acts like the type of filter I got is most suitable for pressure systems.

The one I showed is a sintered brass or bronze "rock" filter. Is that likely to get pushed into the carb?

I'll keep it in mind when I look for a pump side filter.

Besides, I can hold my finger over the fuel line and stop it from pumping. It's not like its a diesel injector pump or something. Demand is demand. That float bowl will only accept so much fuel in at a time, and the engine can only burn so much at a time. After that, the gas stops moving. It's not much different than gravity fed when you look at it that way. But then, if there's a clog, it could be a problem. Moreover, I found that the stock fuel pump for a bike one year newer runs a measley 3 psi, so the risk is relatively low. http://www.hondashadow.net/forum/72-technical-discussion/126952-84-vt700-fuel...
