Both do the same job. I don't push the bike, but definitely noticed the bike was stabler with the brace.

So it looks like to install the tkat we have to remove the plastic fork shields, right? I was out measuring my forks per the tkat measure guide and it seems like the shields cover up the area that I need some measurements on but I don't want to just rip them off.

Is there a way to remove the shields safely or do I have to cut a slit in the back so I can peel them off?

Also, did those of you that got the tkat have to give detailed measurements or just your make, model, year and he took care of it? Said he has been making these for 30 years so I want to think he has a stockpile of measurements and knows what he's doing.

Stew,

I just told him I had a 2013 S40 and he shipped the correct fork brace.

I split the seal protectors with a brand new utility knife blade and I could contact cement them back on if I ever removed the fork brace.

If you buy the brace make sure you cover the fender with cardboard when doing the installation to prevent scratching the paint.

Off topic, I am now using your rubber thingy on my rear wheel. I had a flat tire on an almost new rear tire on a hundred degree day.....

Yep....a small block of wood with a nice square corner, and a tap from a hammer will knock them out of the retaining grooves. You will have to work your way around before you drive any one side up very far. Work them up a little at a time.

Then....you need to decide if you want to cut them off so they aren't dangling around - or remove the fork tubes from the triple clamp so you can save the shields.

Thanks folks! That makes me feel better as I was not sure I was measuring very well.

I'll probably cut the shields off delicately to save them...I don't want to have to start taking apart the forks, etc.

KennyG, I hope the shim is working well for you. Hate to hear about the flat. I had a new rear last year with about 600 miles on it and picked up a nail. Rode too far to feel safe with the damage to the tire and had to buy a new tire and tube. Sad

So I got my TKAT in the mail today. For those that have had to remove the fork guards, did you just use a piece of wood like this (see image) and give it a few whacks at the bottom lip of the plastic and it will then jump out of the groove? My goal is to carefully split it down the middle (backside) to remove it from the fork so if I ever need to, I can snap it back on with a little glue and it still look nice. I thought cutting it first with a utility knife right there in the groove but I am trying to avoid scoring a line in the fork...and my hand Shocked

I think that's where I'd go after it. Remove the fender, and wheel, put the wood there and give it a smack. At least, this would be a hidden place in case YOU screw up.
